Aja Naomi King as Aida Boutros
-OR-
Brittany Marie Batchelder as Aida Boutros
Everybody knew Aida carried a torch for Nova but Nova might be the only person on the planet who knows Aida just loved the idea of her; she reminded Nova too much of her own mother and father. And they'd come to terms with this, they've been long distance friends for years now, and she's Nova's go-to lawyer for everything. Yea her fight is personal because of everything they did to Ra, but Amer was Aida's twin and unlike Rah he never made it home. So Nova can recognize sometimes it gets too personal and twisted up for Aida. That's where she pulls that magic from though -- it makes her her greatest weapon -- but not every time, on occasion she's volatile.
When her little brother's released and their father passes and everything's a mess, Nova calls in a favor because whether it's emotional support, a distraction, legal support or everything rolled into one she knows she's about to need Aida for something.
Turns out Aida's needed for just about everything, battling in immigration case after immigration case no matter how unknown or poorly publicized has possibly made her even more dedicated to turning the justice system on its head than her original reason for choosing her path did. Most recently, she's motivated to come down to St Jo's for the Bordelons' dead and remaining employees and their families after helping Nova with Too Sweet in New Orleans. And once she gets down there, one sister wants her opinions on the will, the other's trying to hire her own so she can get some insight on the ridiculously shady business going on on neighboring farms, and the overgrown baby brother's clearly expressed he needs absolutely nothing or nobody.
In her professional opinion though, she can come up with a list least a dozen long of shit the Bordelons need a lawyer for. But maybe she's just biased and looking for excuses why a lawyer's staying at a farm, other than she fell in love with the land.
LITTLE EXTRA: There's this optional not reall sub-plot but a facet of Aida and you decide if it works or not but Aida MAY have lost a kid when s/he was young and she's been very raw/uncomfortable/vulnerable around kids since
So everybody's fav teenage son, Micah's most likely a big part of her story, you can decide how and how much she intersects with his plotline
There's most likely more Queen Sugar coming, don't know if the stories work in the same universe though
Aida's origins are up to you, I feel like it could work if she grew up with the Bordelons -- shit if Prosper's daught never comes into the picture, then Aida could be her -- and then moves away and grows distant kinda forgetting her home but it could work other ways too
I haven't read Queen Sugar so I don't know what's supposed to happen, but Aida and the Bordelons, each doing what they do, are about to be the dream team against the Landrys
A back up title -- which might be just as corny-- is Stuff Only The Land Knows b/c Prosper is fucking amazing and that scene last ep with Nova's one of my fav scenes of his
