We reached Cair Paravel the next day at noon and stayed there for two days, waiting, until at last, the day came for Peter, Edmund, Susan and Lucy to take their place on the thrones.
On the days leading up to the coronation, no one would tell me much about what had happened in Datram. I kept asking but James and Maxwell kept evading the topic and diverting back to me. They asked for every detail of my expedition, my 'death', how I came back, and everything that happened after. "We'll speak about Datram when we're in Datram," James kept saying every time I asked, but on the third day he must have gotten annoyed because he gave something up.
"Here's one thing you should know," he said after I had asked for the hundredth time about mother and father. "Maxwell got married,"
I turned to look at Max and he shot James an angry look.
"Discuss," James said and walked away.
"You got married?!" I wanted to be angry at him for keeping the secret for three days, but it comes out like disappointment.
"I did not know how to tell you," he said uncomfortably.
Wow, there's something I wasn't expecting. "Who is she?" I asked.
"Imira, don't do this?" he urged me, but I didn't care.
"Who is she?" I asked again. "Do I know her?"
"Yes, you know her. You'll see her when we get back,"
"Do you love her?" I asked, jealous of the mysterious woman.
"Yes," he replied with a small smile. "And I'd be willing to bet anything in this world you'll like her,"
Oh, really? "You sound very sure,"
"That's because you already know her," Maxwell says and walks away.
I, of course, chase after him. He can't just say something like that and walk away! "Who is it?" I pressed on.
"I think I've said enough,"
Cocky bastard, I forgot how annoying he could be. "Oh, come on! You can't just say something like that and not expect me to have any questions," I complain.
"Hey, I didn't say anything, it was James who let it out. Our plan was to wait until we were back so we could tell you together,"
What if... no way! "Is she my cousin? Did you marry Æric's sister? Did you marry Ærica?"
"You'll have to wait to see," he says cryptically.
"Oh, come on! I HAVE to know,"
"No, you don't," he replies with a smirk.
Ugh! "You're so annoying sometimes,"
"What, you don't love me anymore?"
Is he seriously asking that? "Please, I broke up with you, remember?"
