PETER'S POV
We are sitting in a council meeting. Imira is to my left and Edmund is to my right. To Imira's left, a chair remains empty. That is Lucy's place, but she won't be attending today. Next, to the empty chair sits Susan then Peridan and the other Lords all the way back to Edmund. Everyone but Lucy is here. I saw her at breakfast where she told me she has examinations before our lessons. I do not envy her.
Imira asks a few questions and has a few ideas to share when asked about a certain topic, but she mostly remains silent during the meetings. Unless it concerns Datram she does not tend to argue. I see her tense when we decide something she does not fully agree with, but I appreciate her not commenting on it or challenging my decisions in front of everyone. I will have to thank her for it afterward.
After a while, I have been briefed on everything that I have missed and made the decrees that I needed to make and so we move on to matters of justice. Edmund's department. I listen attentively, but Edmund is the one in charge of making the decisions on this sort of matter, his decrees are usually very reasonable and I tend to agree on most cases. Whenever I don't we usually call for a break, chat on it privately and come to an agreement, that or we fight about it and Susan scorns us. I find it better not to quarrel with my siblings in front of others; we need to present a strong, united front.
Every so often I find myself reaching for the pocket inside my vest to make sure the ring is there and keep thinking of when will it be a good time to ask her.
I wonder what Imira is thinking. Maybe she's bored and would rather sit this all out. I have never asked her really if she wants to be here. But she has to because of her position. It is more of a responsibility than a choice. For both of us. She doesn't get much say in these matters unless they involve Datram any way, and they mostly don't. She'd probably rather be doing something else. I.... I feel her hand on my left leg. Whatever is she thinking? I turn to look at her casually and she glances briefly at me with a mischievous look before it disappears just as quickly as she focuses her attention back in the conversation, she leaves something on my lap. A note. I go back to looking up front as I always do but forget completely about the conversation as I unfold the piece of paper and read it.
"King Peter, what say you?" Edmund asks looking at me. Imira turns her eyes on me, as do all those present.
Oh shit. Quick Peter, think of something smart to say! "I will leave this one to you, brother. Whatever you say regarding this matter goes," I tell him.
"Excellent." He seems pleased. Phew, that was close. "Then we will...." I stop listening. Damn, that was close.I hope he didn't realize I wasn't paying attention to a single word he said. I have no clue what I just agreed to. I'll have to ask Imira if she was paying attention to what I just agreed to. I hope she knows because if not then I'll have to ask Edmund and then he will know something was up with me during the meeting.
