281 AC, King's Landing

Rhaegar had paced the hall outside his wife's bedchambers for hours. Hearing her screams from inside as the day turned into night and to morning again.

He felt exhausted from having being up for so long without any sleep and barely had any energy to protest when his mother came and forced him to his solar, taking him away from the cries that broke his heart.

Which lead him to were he was now, sitting on the floor in his solar, his back against the wall and one of his legs bent while the other stretched over the floor. He had been seated by his desk for a while but quickly grew restless and had since then been sitting in at least ten different places.

Arthur has joined him by nightfall when Viserys had fallen asleep and later Oswell and Jon had joined him as well. His squires Myles Motoon and Richard Lonmouth had stopped by but he had sent them away after an hour or so.

"It's not supposed to take this long" Rhaegar said surely, "Something must be wrong. We should have heard from someone by now."

"I'm sure we would have been informed if something was wrong" Oswell tried to calm him down, "and it's not as anyone of us have much experience in childbirth. Who knows how long it's supposed to take?"

"It didn't take this much time with Lyrella" Rhaegar said, "A day has passed already and nothing."

"No news is better than bad news" Arthur reasoned, "You need to calm yourself Rhaegar, nothing will become better for anyone because you are panicking."

"How can I not panic?!" Rhaegar raised his voice, "I'd rather fight a thousand battles for her than sit her and do nothing while she suffers because of something she didn't even wish for. I'm the one in the need of an heir. I need my three dragons, she is just an innocent in all of this."

"She is your wife and it's her duty to provide you with an heir" Jon said stoically, "What's the worse thing that can happen? If she die-"

"I warn you Jon, if you finish that sentence you will die" Arthur said darkly, sending a glare towards Jon that could make any man cower. "And sense you are the one who only sees her as a pawn or a burden I will tell you this; Lys is the only reason Rhaegar has the support of half the kingdom. So don't speak of her like she some disposable broodmare."

"You think too highly of her" Jon snorted, uncaring of the way Rhaegar was glaring at him and seeming to forget how worried the prince was for the wife he was speaking ill of.

"And you are a fool to think that she isn't smarter than every man who runs this kingdom combined" Arthur snapped while standing up, Jon doing the same, "She is both more clever and a better warrior than you will ever be-"
