The cold wind lightly brushed me as I walked in the empty streets of Tokyo. I was walking for almost an hour now. My eyes desperately searched for a human, thinking to myself that I am batshit crazy.
The whole town disappeared. They just...ceased to exist.
I didn't hear any evacuation alarm, there isn't any festival... My mind race with numerous possibilities, but I came up with nothing.„ This is crazy. I AM crazy! This has to be a dream, a very real looking lucid dream..." I muttered to myself, almost laughing at the stupidity of my situation.
I stopped in the middle of the street and raised my arms in the air. I started spinning looking at the dark abyss around me. A nervous giggle escaped my lips. Then a small laugh. Before I knew it, I was cackling, still in denial of this being real.
„TOKYO IS DEAD!" I screamed in the fits of laughing smiling creepily.
I didn't know in that naive time, that my statement was true.
„Hello?!" I hear a male voice yell. I let my hands go back by my sides to look at the source of the greeting. There stood 3 young men, about my age. The one who called out at me was the tallest, with blonde hair. The second one quite short, having a cute face with his work badge hanged around his neck.
The third one was interesting. A mid-height, fluffy hair, and aloof looking expression. He reminded me of myself. Before I could dissect them further, the blonde guy started to speak.
„Do you know where everyone went?" he spoke with a relieved smile, looking at me as if I was a pile of cold hard cash. I stared at him, shocked that I see a human, but regained my composure in a quick second and answered his question.
„I don't know, you are the first people I have seen in an hour. What are you doing here?" I asked as if they weren't in the same situation as me.
„We don't know...we were inside a bathroom toge-" he started but the fluffy hair boy slapped a hand on his mouth and continue his monologue. „we were in metro station when the power went out. We went outside to check what happened, but everyone disappeared."
Groan escaped my lips. I thought that they would say something along the lines „this is a prank and you are being recorded„. Now I have absolutely no idea what's happening and why the exact same thing took place in both of our situations.
Arisu looked at y/n and saw the distress on their face. He was astonished by their aura, even though he wasn't spiritual, one look at them made him believe that earth angels exist. He saw the alluring presence, the way they spoke, moved-
„I'm Chota Segawa! It's so nice to finally see someone after walking 3 hours around this empty town..." the short guy said cheerfully and then his expression saddened when he realized that the town is in fact, still empty.
„I'm y/n, but you can call me y/f/n." I said with a smile, his face quite adorable as his eyes shined at your face. The two other boys introduced themselves. Arisu and Karube. I found them kind, being happy that you met them, rather than some psychopath. I started to ask another question when the billboard on one of the buildings lighted up.
„Welcome players the game will commence in a moment"
I stared at it annoyed. A game? Did some rich kid plan this to play some game? No, that would be impossible. Maybe-
„Y/n are you okay?" Arisu interrupted my thoughts, looking at me concerned. I looked at him, at a quite handsome face, and averted my eyes. „Yes, I'm just startled about the fact that some sick fuck wants us to play games" I muttered out angrily.
„This way to the game arena" another sentence appeared on the screen with an arrow pointing to the right.
I had to cling to something real. Even though I knew nobody could organize something like this, I couldn't admit the fact that this is sci-fi. A fantasy. But real. Maybe my life before all of this wasn't as bad as I thought.
We came to some building with cars in front. Maybe they are going to be useful in the future. We hesitantly went in, not knowing that the worst has yet to come.
There was trash everywhere, it looked like it wasn't taken care of in a long time. I descended into a hallway with an elevator at the end of it. I stopped, Arisu next to me scanning the area. I spotted a table with phones on it, a lot of phones.
Before I could react, Chota cheerfully went up to the table grabbing a phone. The three of you reluctantly followed him.
„This is sick." I angrily muttered as I grabbed a random phone.„It uses facial recognition, that's so cool!" Chota chimed in, seemingly unbothered by the last few hours.
Chota was correct. After it scanned your face it registered you into the game. I looked over Karube. The more you spent in this room, the more you became nervous. But looking at Karube, the fieriest in the group of boys, your nerves subsided.
„Do you guys think we should just leave? I mean, there isn't some big bodyguard standing by the door..." I mused before I turned to them. Arisu shook his head vigorously in agreement.
Before anyone could say anything, a woman around 25 fast-walked to the table a grabbed a phone. „ I don't recommend leaving." she said in a knowing tone. She went up to Chota and grabbed his ID. Before he could protest, the unknown woman threw the card in the air behind us. A red laser pierced through, only a hole left of Chota's face.
We all stumbled back in shock. There were so many questions running through my head. I looked at the girl, she was staring mournfully at a piece of burned plastic on the floor. She seemed like an ambitious woman, groomed, and well dressed.
„Oh my god, I'm so glad there is someone here!" a shrieky voice called out. It was a young girl, still dressed in her school uniform. She reminded me of my life, well, previous life. It was exactly 4 years ago when I stepped into a school facility the last time. After my mother's death, I was at rock bottom.
I started doing things that I shouldn't. Drugs, alcohol, running from police, just doing trouble. It was the time where the fine line between reality and my fantasy blurred, mixing together and turning into ugly colors.
You shook your head at the memories, getting focused on the task at hand. The boys screamed at the girl, warning her to not get through the vicious laser. Of course she didn't get grilled, there have to be people playing this shit. I started to understand the whole concept of this. The first girl already played a game, meaning that there isn't only one. Judging by the lasers that could kill you in a second, this is like death Olympics.
I looked around the hallway for cameras, knowing that there is some psychopath enjoying the show.
„6 participants registered. The game will commence in 30 seconds"
A sign lighted up above the elevator signaling for players to step in it.
„Here goes nothing," I mumbled before walking to the elevator.
