The next few days, we hung out at the lake. We went to the camps movie night on Tuesday, then left the campgrounds on Wednesday morning. We returned just in time for Thanksgiving the next day.

I slept in until noon on Thursday, the day of Thanksgiving. When I went downstairs, my mom seemed flustered. She was cooking a turkey and some other things.

"Hey." I lightly smiled at her.

"You slept in awfully late." She frowned.

"Yeah, well I'm tired."

"Why are you tired?" She wiped the sweat from her brow.

"Um," I paused. "Because I was gone all weekend?"

"Well didn't you guys get to bed at a reasonable time?" Mom squinted her eyes.

I shrugged. "I guess."

She crossed her arms and frowned at me.

"What?" I squinted my eyes.

She shook her head and continued cooking. I went upstairs to my room.

Around 7pm, I was called downstairs to the dinner table. It was just me, my mom, and Adam. Just like it was every year.

Mom served up dinner. "We're eating late this year."

Adam and I stayed silent.

"Would've gotten dinner done sooner if I had some help." Mom said.

"I would've helped but-" I started to talk, but was interrupted.

"But you were too busy sleeping because you were out fooling around with that boy this weekend."

"That boy?" I questioned her.

"Evan." She angrily said.

"I thought you liked him, but apparently not." I frowned.

Mom began raising her voice. "He's not good for you, Aurora."

"What are you talking about?"

"I did some research, he's not a good kid." She shook her head.

"Your point?"

"I don't want you seeing him anymore, Aurora! Before you know it, he's going to be having you do what he used to. And you guys were all alone this weekend, who knows what happened!" She yelled.

"Mom, that's enough." Adam looked at her.

"You know nothing about him!" I stood up.

"I know enough, Aurora! Now sit down and eat your dinner." She said.

"No."

"Aurora sit down." She said sternly.

"Why don't you like him all of a sudden?" I gulped.

"He's no good for you."

"What makes you think that?"

"He used to party and drink alcohol," She took a drink of her red wine. "His father abused his mother, Aurora."

"I'm leaving." I started to walk away.

Mom stood up. "Get back here!"

She followed me to the door.

"Aurora, I don't want you seeing him anymore!" She grabbed me by the arm.

I jerked away from her grip. "You are not going to tell me who I am going to love or not!"

I grabbed my car keys off of the hanger and my jacket. It was pouring down rain. That's why I hated California, because the weather was so bipolar. I drove, and cried, and cried, and cried, until it felt like I couldn't cry anymore.
