"Why'd you come back?" I ask him.

"Wow... I don't think you've ever had a dream where we've just talked," he says, propping himself up by placing his elbows on his thighs.

"Would you rather shoot me?" I ask.

"The night is still young," he tells me.

"Answer my question," I demand.

"Which one?"

"Why'd you come back?"

He smiles.

"For you. And for Cameron," he says.

"Well obviously, but why? What do you hope to gain from Cameron and me?"

"A relationship. Some form of a relationship."

"And why would we ever give you any kind of a relationship?"

"Because I'm still your father," he says.

"Fathers don't beat their children."

"It wasn't me, you know that. I wasn't taking my pills."

"Doesn't mean you didn't do it."

"Nash did the same thing."

"Don't bring Nash into this, how do you even know about Nash?"

"I've been keeping an eye on you guys for years."

"So you've been stalking us?"

"I've been... watching over you."

I lean forward.

"Why don't you just tell me what you really want?"

"What do you want me to say? That I want to beat you guys again? I don't."

"Well your lie about wanting a relationship isn't gonna work."

"Why don't you believe me? And don't answer that question by saying 'because you beat us' or anything like that," he says.

"But that's the reason! What other reason would there be?"

"That's what I'm asking."

"I don't understand what you're-"

"Think. Something's always been off, hasn't it? About our family," he says.

"Other than the fact that you beat us? I don't think so."

He rolls his eyes.

"You've sensed it. You've wondered so many times why I beat you, the real reason. Think."

"You just said you weren't on your pills, Cameron told me."

"Think."

"There's no other reason that I can-"
