"So you finally did it, huh?" a voice asks.

"Did what?"

"You finally hurt yourself."

"I had to."

"And why is that?"

"Because everything's wrong."

"Well can't you make it right?"

"I've tried."

"Try harder."

"There is no trying harder."

"Are you implying that it's impossible?"

"Yes, it's impossible."

"Nothing's impossible."

"Well we can't fly, flying is impossible."

"Yes, but we can fly in planes."

"But the plane itself is flying, not us."

"So would you say that the blade itself is hurting you and not you?"

"No, I guess I am hurting myself."

"Then why is this any different?"

"Because you can stop a plane from flying but you can't stop a blade from cutting."

"Maybe you're right, maybe the universe just hates you?"

"Precisely so."

"So out of all the billions of people in the world, you don't think that anyone has it worse than you?"

"I'm afraid I have to say I'm pretty high up the charts."

"Well then, I'd like you to meet little Chloe here."

A small girl appears, her golden braids swinging at her sides. She's about nine or ten, clad in a plaid dress and stockings.

"Chloe's dad used to beat her family," the voice tells me.

A grown man appears along with two older boys and a woman. The man is chasing his family around the house with a belt and little Chloe is hiding under a table with her mother.

"Yeah, my dad did too," I reply.

"Her mom had enough one day and decided to divorce him, but she didn't press charges."

The image shows the man moving out of the family's house, bags in hand.

"At lease she was smart enough to divorce the bastard," I remark.

"They thought all was well," the voice continued, "until they got a call one day."

The image changes into the family huddled around their phone.

"The dad had called them and said he had cancer. They arranged to meet in a public place because the mother didn't trust him. So they left."

The image now shows the family piling into a car and driving off.

"When they finally arrived, they all got out of the car and waited for the father. When he got there, he got out of the car and shot the mother."
