First dates sucked - it was a trope, everyone knew that first dates sucked, that they were absolute hell on earth; awkward, embarrassing, humiliating even, in some cases. Full of annoying, lame ass questions that neither patron wants to answer or ask, but they're supposed to because you can't just get with someone if you don't know stupid, simple facts about them.

Everyone wants to get to the good stuff, skip the basics, skip the first date so they don't have to deal with that shit, but there is no way around it.

Or, that's what (f/n) believed.

It was only when Konoha asked her out that she realized there was a way around it - date your best friend.

Okay, so maybe best friend was pushing it, but Konoha and (f/n) had known each other for quite some time now, which meant they knew the embarrassing stories, they'd been told all the pointless facts, heard all the stupid jokes - they'd practically already been on their first six dates. So, (f/n) said yes.

It was spontaneous, really. She'd always sworn off friends because it could be awkward in a different way - things could go wrong and they'd never be the same again, but Konoha was different. He was cute and funny and laid back but awkward in the same way (f/n) was, and she liked him, and she wasn't going to let her old bad experiences stop her from having something good now.

*****

Konoha picked (f/n) up, as he had done many times before for small, friendly get togethers and study sessions, and it was nice, way over welcomed on (f/n)'s part, and from what she could tell it was welcomed on Konoha's too. It was the natural, simplistic nature of their normal relationship with just a little more flirting, a few more casual touches here and there, and (f/n) was surprised at how well it was going so far.

Konoha only stopped telling an old story about training camp shenanigans - some of the craziest stories (f/n) had ever heard, and they were always her favorite to hear from the boy - to lead her into the small restaurant they'd be having lunch at. He proceeded the story once they were sat down and sipping the drinks they'd ordered, acting as if he hadn't had had to stop in the first place.

When his story was done (f/n) told her own equally hilarious, maybe a little inappropriate for first date story, and when they finished Konoha was laughing so damn hard he was snorting, and (f/n) could feel herself growing red, tears forming in her eyes. It felt effortless, being with Konoha like this - like when they normally hung out but better because it was okay for (f/n) to hold his hand and stare at his lips a little too long.

The date seemed like it was going to be perfect - their food was arriving and nothing bad had happened yet. (f/n) was proud because she was finally going to have had a perfect date with the perfect guy.

But only minutes after taking a bite of huge (f/n)'s food - wither permission, of course - Konoha lips and cheeks and tongue were swelling up - he was having an allergic reaction.

*****

The next half an hour after that kind of happened in a blur - (f/n) tugged Konoha out of the restaurant quickly, promising that she'd come back to pay the bill after she made sure Konoha was okay. It was a fairly quick drive to the ER, once that (f/n) spent panicking because she didn't know Konoha well enough, not if she ordered something he was allergic to and then let him eat it - they needed a real first date but she wasn't sure she was gonna go shit after this experience.

Konoha was wheezing in the passenger seat, trying to breath even though his airway was swelling and closign up from the whatever it was that had caused this.

Once (f/n) pulled up to the emergency entrance she was dragging the male inside, barely able to keep him steady.

"What happened? A nurse asked, immediately making her way from behind the counter.

(f/n) could barely breath, even though she wasn't the one having a severe allergic reaction. "I don't know, we were on a date and he ate something off of my plate - I didn't know he had food allergies, he hadn't told me just please help him."

The nurse assured (f/n) that Konoha would be okay, and after she went and re-parked Konoha's car (f/n) found herself sitting outside of a room, being consoled by a nurse, who was telling her that she was having a panic attack.

After they had him properly treated - just had to poke him a few times with some needles and inject him with some counter active fluids - (f/n) was allowed in his room, and she called Konoha's roommate Komi and told him what happened before trying to distract herself with tumblr on her phone but it was proving to be impossible.

When she asked the nurse she was informed he was only asleep because the mixture of medications in his body exhausted him on top of the exhaustion he was already feeling because of the allergic reaction.

It wasn't long until he was waking up, though, and (f/n) had mostly calmed in that time, so she smiled nervously at him - she was ready to be told he didn't want a second date.

"Are you feeling okay now?" (f/n) asked, looking over his face - the swelling was all the way down but his lips were still a little puffy and he looked absolutely exhausted, but way, way better none the less.

"Well I can breathe now," he joked, his normal smile on his face. "No really, I'm way better, thank you so much for rushing me here as fast as you could - I'm sorry for ruining the date." He frowned at the thought of, and (f/n) did too.

"No, you didn't ruin it - I did, I fed you my food without asking if you had allergies."

Konoha laughed. "No, I should have told you my allergies - how about we spend the next date learning the stupid things about each other so nothing like this will happen again."

(f/n) beamed, "next time, huh?" Konoha nodded and (f/n) was moving closer, sitting on the bed now. "That means I could kiss you, right?" Konoha nodded again and (f/n) leaned in as far as she could without leaning on him at all - she was still worried about hurting him.

Konoha smiled wide and pulled the girl until she was chest to chest with him. He wasted no time then and was pulling her into a kiss - it was a little sloppy, especially because Konoha's mouth was still a little numb, but it was great nonetheless.

They stopped when there was a laugh from the doorway, and they turned around to see Komi with the nurse.

"Well, that took no time at all," the shorter boy said, large smile on his face. Konoha shrugged and pulled (f/n) back to him to kiss her again.

Turns out first dates still suck, but (f/n) decided she just had to find someone that made them suck a little less. Konoha was the someone.
