"Mind if I sit?" Seungbae looks down at the female seated at the counter of the café. The establishment isn't busy today and there are plenty of other seats open, but he felt the need to sit in that particular seat next to the young woman who is diligently tapping away on her computer.

The woman looks up at him and gives a tiny smile. "It's no problem." She is oblivious to her surroundings at the moment and is unaware that the majority of the café has free seats available. Still, even if she did know, she wouldn't have had refused him, because she has no reason to. Yet.

Seungbae shuffled into his seat and receives his black coffee. "Is that work?" He asks casually, to the woman beside him.

She looks up, her (adjective) eyes meeting his tired ones. "Yup, I've been working on it for a long time, but there never seems to be any progress." Seungbae watches the beautiful woman sigh.

Beautiful?

It's not how he would originally think he would describe her. Sophisticated. Yes. Determined. Yes. Hardworking. Yes. Attractive. Yes. Well, maybe that's what brought him to beautiful.

As an officer and unofficial investigator, first impressions are always important. Not only are they important, but Seungbae's are almost always accurate.

Seungbae nods a little stiffly. "Work, huh. Yeah, I definitely understand that." He looks off into something in the distance, far, far way. "I'm hitting a roadblock myself."

Welcoming the conversation, Y/n pauses her work. She quickly saves her document and gives more attention to the friendly man. "May I ask what it is that you do? I might be able to help you?"

Normally, Seungbae avoids sharing any information about his job, but something about this stranger makes him feel like it's okay to reveal just about anything. "I'm a police officer." He looks over to the woman to watch her reaction.

"Really? You look so young to be an officer."

The man is somewhat surprised. Is it because she's foreign that she can't tell? "People normally say that I look much older than my age."

At this, the woman laughs. "To be truthful, I have a slight phobia of cops. But, I don't feel that way around you."

Seungbae doesn't know if she is implying he doesn't seem like a real cop or that his presence is somewhat comforting. Something in him wants to hope it's the latter. "I normally don't chat with younger women, but you seem to be the more mature type."

The woman chuckles shyly and looks away. Cute.

"Are you struggling with a case, or a boss?" The woman inquires.

"When am I not struggling with my boss?" At this, the woman smiles out of friendliness, not of relating to the comment. She must work well with her boss. "At the moment, it's a case that's bothering me. Something just doesn't add up."

"I wish I could help." The woman looks upon him sincerely. It's a look that comes naturally to her, most likely the kind she gives to everyone. She must be popular among her friends and family.

"Maybe you could..." Seungbae pulls out a notepad and flips through pages of his messy hand writing. "Do kid- people your age have close relationships with their friends?"

The woman tilts her head slightly at the question. "It depends on the person I think." She takes a sip of the hot drink in her hand. "I don't have many friends, especially not here in South Korea, but I think I'm close to the ones that I do have."

"What about the people you hang out with?" Seungbae asks quickly. Those brats didn't know anything about their 'friend'. Who just lets someone they supposedly care about disappear into the night? Not only that, but at the station, they were more concerned with clearing their own name instead of helping to find their missing, most likely dead, 'friend'.

"I guess... not really." The woman begins to close herself off, clutching the drink she has yet to release a little tighter.

Seungbae backs off and takes a breath. "You go to XX University nearby, right? Do you know a student named Oh Sangwoo?"

"How do you know that I attend school there?"

Shit. He scratches his head and looks away a little. "I've seen you run between your classes while I do my patrols. You're not easily forgettable."

The woman has her fists bunched at her sides, but is quick to release them once she follows his gaze to them. "Oh Sangwoo?" She repeats slowly. "What about him? Is he a suspect in the case you're working on?"

Fuck. "...I can't reveal that kind of information to the public." The skeptical look in her eyes tells him that his time is almost up. She won't be giving many answers after this. "What kind of person is he?"

"Strong, smart, handsome, your average twenty something year old college student."

"Is he suspicious?"

The woman scoffs, "A lot less suspicious than you."

Seungbae hesitates. "I'm sorry, I got ahead of myself."

"No, it's fine." She stands up from her seat and starts packing up her things. "I just hate to see someone like him be misjudged by police. He's honestly just a nice guy."

Right. She did say she has a phobia of police. Perhaps hatred might have been more accurate? Police in other countries aren't always smiled upon. Perhaps she had come from one of those places?

The woman finishes packing her things and Seungbae stands and bows to her. "Thank you for your cooperation. It's greatly appreciated."

"Ah," The woman quickly bows back.

Lifting his head, Seungbae presents her with a business card. "There's my personal contact information. Please contact me if you ever have any trouble, I'll try my best to help."

"Thank you," The woman reads the card, "Seungbae."

The man bows again.
