third person's pov

y/n stood there in disbelief. did her "dead" fiancé really ask her what her name was?

"i don't understand," she mumbles.

"are you okay? you look really pale," mattia pointed out. "here sit down."

"no i'm fine," y/n said almost rudely. "what're you.. do you not know who i am?"

"should i?" he tilts his head. "i have a problem with memory. about a year ago i got into this accident and lost my memory. i don't even think i'm originally from france but it's not so bad here." the longer he stares at y/n, the more he realizes there's something about her.

"you don't remember anything?" y/n asked.

"only my name. at least i think this is my name."

before she could answer him, something outside the window caught her attention. it was man lurking, but he walked off before she could get a good look at him. was it a prophet?

"so... your name?" mattia asks again.

"sorry," she snaps out of it. "i'm y/n. y/n price. this is riley."

"y/n and riley," he mumbles. "pretty names for two girls." he bends down and pets the dog for a quick second.

but all y/n could think about is that if prophets are here, then mattia's in danger and he doesn't even know it. and she led them here.

"can i ask you something?" y/n spoke.

"yeah go for it."

"this might sound weird but are you happy? like genuinely happy with your life?"

"yeah," he answers. "well i have every reason to be happy you know? but no matter what i think i'm always gonna feel like something's missing."

"but you're happy?"

"yeah i'd say i'm happy," mattia smiles. he stared at her for second admiring her then his eyes travel down below her neck. "that's a cool locket. interesting symbol..."

"oh yeah," her hands immediately fly around it. "i know it's an odd symbol but it actually has meaning behind it."

"what meaning would that be?"

"peace," she fakes a small smile. "to me, it means peace."

"that's a nice ring too.." he added.

"you are a fan of jewelry aren't you?" y/n teases.

"not until right now," he laughs. "the stuff you wear just catches my eye i think. maybe cause it's american jewelry."

"maybe." a part of the mattia she knew was still there. but he's happy. and even if he was to enter her life again, he'd have to go through the war she had going on with the prophets right now. that's not better.

still she couldn't help but to say this. "the ring is actually an engagement ring."

"it's suppose to go on your ring finger but," mattia chuckles, "your fiancé is really lucky. you seem like a nice girl."

"something happened to him," y/n says. "but i think i was the lucky one."

"oh i'm sorry to hear that," he frowns. "when i washed up on the shore, i was wearing an engagement ring too. i don't know who my fiancée was but i hope she's doing well without me."

she isn't y/n thought. before she could answer him, a woman walked through the door and immediately went to mattia's side.

"hey i'm on a lunch break so i just decided to stop by," the girl said, kissing him on the lips.

y/n felt like her heart broke all over again. the way he looked at her with no love in his eyes. seeing the love of her life kiss someone else.

"lena, this is a customer, y/n. y/n this is lena, my new fiancée. our rings are getting resized," said mattia.

"nice to meet you," lena smiled. "i'm gonna go say hi to the people in the back." she walked away.

"well your... fiancée is a lucky woman," y/n struggled to say, fighting back her tears.

"thanks, she kinda saved my life. id be dead without her," he smiled. "oh let me go get our order for you. be right back."

mattia excused himself and headed to the kitchen. before he grabbed her carbonara, he reached into his pocket for the watch that was around his wrist when he washed up on shore. he turned it over and saw the paw symbol that was very similar to the one y/n had on her locket, only hers had a snake wrapped around it.

"hey y/n can i ask you something now?" mattia walked back to the front and handed her the to go. "do i know you? or do you know me?"

"should i?" she lied. mattia laughed as she copied his words from earlier. "trust me i uh, would definitely remember meeting you."

he couldn't help but blush a little bit at the compliment, even if he did have a fiancée. she's a beautiful girl, there was no denying that. "sorry, it's just... there's something about you." he didn't know why but he was completely drawn to her.

"maybe i have one of those faces." at this point, y/n was fighting the urge to cry. she was just so happy that mattia was alive... and happy. she didn't wanna ruin that for him but all she wanted to do was hug him.

"well it's a nice face," he mumbled. "but it was nice to meet you, thank you for coming to my restaurant. are you staying in france for a while?" he reached out his hand to shake hers.

hesitantly, she took his hand into hers. they still felt the same. "just for a little bit."

she was going to retreat her hand but mattia found himself not wanting to let go, because it felt safe and familiar to him. "sorry, sorry. uh well i hope you come back."

all y/n could do was smile and say, "until we meet again."

mattia's eyes soften at those words, but he didn't know why. "yeah.. until we meet again." he watched her prepare to leave but all he knew was that he wanted to see her again. for some reason, that "thing" he felt like is missing was her.

"come on riley," y/n tugged on the leash. she walked out of the restaurant with tears streaming down her face because she knew that there was no way she's coming back.

cause if she did, she was just going to get attached again.
