It was a cloudy day near Station Square, the smell of rain off in the distance made all the animals either take shelter in their homes, or venture out prepared for a nice cool shower. Mobians rushed through the streets, desperate to get home before the weather got too bad.

However, the weather was not yet a problem for Sonic the Hedgehog, Miles 'Tails' Prower and (Y/N) the (a/t), all who of which were taking shelter in Tails' workshop. The kitsune had invited the two to join him in his workshop after he hatched a brilliant invention idea. The fox had come up with a new weapon to fight back against their arch nemesis Dr. Eggman, and he needed to test it out on his friends.

Sonic had been happy to offer his assistance, while (Y/N) seemed less so. She was happy to stand and watch, step in if anything dangerous happened, but the (a/t) usually hated being used as a guinea pig, even if it was for her friends. So, she was more or less the backup in case things went wrong, which thankfully for her, was perfectly fine with Tails.

The three had been in the workshop for the better half of the day, the sky had started to get dark even though it was only the afternoon. Darker clouds rolled in, and (Y/N) watched from the window as the grassy fields around the workshop and house slowly started to bend to the wind.

Sonic was currently standing on a hamster wheel, running at a rather slow pace for the hedgehog, as Tails explained what it was he planned to do.

"If for just even a moment I could incorporate this ability to you, the use and control of anti-gravity, then in that moment, you'll be unstoppable." The golden kitsune said with an excited voice, his twin tails wagging behind him. Tails had already started working on creating the ability, he had started it the other day, now it was time to test it and figure out how to transfer the power to others.

"Sounds like a plan!" Sonic smiled, giving his buddy the thumbs up, "I'd love to be able to float about and make Eggman's robot splat across the ground."

"Of course in those moments you won't be able to move much either, so when you use it you better use it right. Planning is crucial with this ability." Tails warned, going to his desk and typing on his laptop.

"Are you sure you chose the right person then?" (Y/N) asked, arms crossed as she glanced at the two, "You and I both know Sonic isn't the planning type."

"Then he'll learn the hard way, won't he?" Tails' voice was thick with teasing, a rhetoric question, but a true statement as well. (Y/N) still wasn't sure, but didn't say anything after that.

Sonic glanced over at her and let out a sigh, a weak smile on his muzzle,

"Hey (Y/N), lighten up. It'll be okay." He said, trying to sound encouraging, "I never get hurt doing this, and now I have you as my guardian, so I'm double safe."

The (a/t) couldn't help but smile. Damn Sonic and his ability to always make her feel better. It was a curse as much as it was a blessing, since worrying was always a cautious and safe thing to do, but it was nice to not always have to worry. Sonic would help her in the times she didn't need to fret, and although now didn't seem like one of those times, the blue hedgehog's warm smile made her relax.

And she couldn't help but smile back at the blue idiot. She gave a nod and he returned it with a thumbs up. Now having the 'ok' from his 'guardian', Sonic was ready to start testing things. Tails glanced up and nodded, pulling an old set of goggles over his eyes as he went back to typing.

As soon as the kitsune lifted his hand, Sonic started running faster on the large wheel. It spun beneath his feet, to an outsider it would be surprising how it held up under this sort of pressure, but knowing Tails had built it, it wasn't surprising to anyone here.
