Scavenging was something they started doing after the world outside went to shit, which of course you'd think they wouldn't know inside their little bubble. Phil used to wonder why they even cared. And then it would hit him in the face, when he'd be sitting in a chair calmly reading a book. A time before Tommy and Ranboo, a time when he still was a child. That was probably why he was so easily sucked into Techno's little schemes and plans, who for a kid was far beyond his years in bad ideas.

"Ow! Who threw that!" Philza shot upright in his bed,  eyes darting around the dark room looking for the source of the crumpled paper that had quite literally hit him in the face. The book, old and worn in his lap slid to the side as a hand pushed it aside. Techno sat down on his bed, the darkness hiding his features, except the shiny red nail polish on his fingers.

"How many times have you read that? 10, maybe 30?" His brother chortled, "You really can't think of anything better to do?"

Good thing it was dark, because Phil was fairly embarrassed, until he remembered something. "Wait you can't make fun of me for reading that's a good thing! Mum said so, and I'm going to bed." He laid back down, facing away from his brother in a stubborn huff.

"Phiiiiiillllllll..." He taunted, that dull voice slightly higher in amusement, "Want a new book?"

And that was all he needed to climb out of bed and slip on some shoes. Following his brother outside at such a late hour even the house didn't notice they were leaving. He yawned, as he followed Techno through the long grass.

"Where are we going?" He whined, Techno shushed him.

"To find books, and maybe some history textbooks too." Techno neared the edge of the river, Philza stopped a few feet away as his brother waded into the water.

"Techno?"

"Yep."

"The barrier stops out there on the other side."

"Yep." His brother answered, before turning back to him. "Come on it's not deep."

"Mom's gonna be mad we can't-"

"Who's gonna know, come on Philza live a little. All that's out there isn't monsters, it's trees, people and stuff." He reached over, and grabbed Philza's sleeve. The water only was up to his ankles, and warm. Phil sighed, clinging to his brother's arm as they crossed over the barrier.

The image of Encanto shimmered, and blurred behind them. It was colder, wind biting at the skin on his arms. Philza's older brother stopped, grabbing a pole from behind the trees. He didn't even question it, just keeping close. They walked for roughly thirty minutes, before Philza saw something, Technoblade grinned.

Shadowed by the moon was a house, a small quaint cabin. There was no light coming from it, but that didn't deter Technoblade. He pulled a reluctant Phil towards it.

"Technooo this isn't a good-" Philza started, before his brother suddenly pulled him down. He let out a small gasp for air when Techno hurried to pack the both of themselves into the shadow of a tree. The calm facial expressions of his brother turned into a small look of fear.

"What-"

Techno clamped a hand over his mouth.  Philza could feel his brother's fingernails digging into his skin. There from the opposite side of the house was a crowd, holding torches and banging on the door.

"Open up witch!"

"You killed all our crops!" Another growled, while a woman clinging to another man with tears in her eyes.
