𝑻𝒉𝒆 royal family sat quietly on the table, all members present except for soobin. the youngest one didn't show up in the meals a lot, but it wasn't clear if out of shame or simply because of discomfort, the queen and oldest prince had seen him in a not so appropriate moment after all.
rhea had never brought the said occurrence up, out of respect of course, but it wasn't like she could forget the scene. it was even worst after knowing soobin was her son, child that she now could remember of thanks to taemin. they weren't even close to mother and son though. the angel couldn't possibly love his new found family as if they weren't just complete strangers, so he didn't see any of the others as family, yet. ann was the most patient one, trying to get closer to him so they could get to know each other, but the male seemed so unhappy while in heaven she wasn't sure if she could help.
"mom, ma?" jungkook broke the silent, not finding the lack of sound comfortable. he was, surprisingly enough, the closest to soobin, even if still far from a brother. maybe the similar choice of species to have as a boyfriend had helped into making both understand each other more.
"yes, kookie?" ann said softly, a small smile on her face while she put more food on yunho's plate. it wasn't a secret the woman had a soft spot for the male, not something she tried to hide, but the black haired was a good mother enough to never let her other children feel less important.
"taehyung asked me in marriage." the older prince said hesitantly, hearing his white haired mother sigh before putting her fork down. it was clear she wasn't content with the news.
"i will excuse myself." the queen got up slowly, not wanting to hear anything about such topic. it wasn't like she would stop jungkook from accepting the proposal, but it was hard to swallow the fact her oldest son was marrying a demon, the most dangerous species for an angel to have a relationship with.
"mom." dahyun called while glaring at the woman, she could understand the topic of dating demons got even more sensitive after what soobin did, but that wasn't motive to disconsider jungkook's feelings.
"love, sit back down, please." the black haired queen held her wife's arm, looking at her in the eyes for a minute before feeling the other do as said. "this is important for kook. i know things got harder after soobin arrived, but jungkook is the same person as he was before, and we both know he is responsible and mindful of his decisions. way more when getting ready to take the crown."
"mama is right, kook is the most responsible and boring person i ever met." yunho said before taking a sip of water, receiving a wheeze from dahyun and a single chuckle from his older brother. ann smiled, patting his head softly, as if thanking for lightning the mood a bit.
"mother, should i remind you that i was there too? i saw everything you did, but i still manage to respect soobin and his decision. he's not a bad person, please don't act like he is a shame to our name." the table got completely silent after the words. of course, jungkook was right, the youngest angel would always have their blood and be part of the family. the future king thought they should be proud of the name they carried, didn't matter what.
it was surprising to see such serious person, be the one who was most on soobin's side.
"i know. i don't take him as a shame. but there are things, lines, that shouldn't be crossed, otherwise you won't be able to go back. i'm just worried you will forget such lines, even if knowing you are too responsible to. before queen, i'm your mother, i can't control my worries over you." rhea rubbed her forehead softly, stressed. a lot of things happened after the war and she had a lot to think and worry about, way more when yeonjun was unexpectedly a way too unpredictable ruler.
"i'm asking your support, not for you to stop worrying."
"jungkook." dahyun put a hand on her brother's shoulder, warning him he should calm down a little. the male did, cleaning his throat and murmuring a small apology for his tone.
"i will get used to it, jungkook. just give me time. i would never stop you from marrying someone you love." the male nodded, going back into eating his food in silence, he knew that was the best answer he could get for now.
yunho pouted softly, playing with the food on his plate boredly, he was definitely the most curious one about what happened during the war for them to get so taken aback with soobin. of course, he knew they saw something inappropriate, but it was never said exactly what, and he would die to know the details. looked like his little brother was not so pure as he seemed, though.
dahyun was about to open her mouth to say something when the doors were opened in a rush, as if an important matter had appeared that needed the queens attention immediately. an angel stepped inside, breathing heavily as if he had ran there, and with slightly pale skin.
"what is it?" ann said instantly, already worried of what could've happened. it was rare the times someone would get in such way inside the room, interrupting their meal so abruptly.
"he took limbo. king daniel just took over limbo and dissolved the council."
"what?!" rhea got up immediately, hands flat on the table while her brows furrowed. it wasn't good, it wasn't good at all. it was terrible, actually.
"he's been king for two months only, how can he already have taken limbo? this is ridiculous! mom, we can't possibly let this happen!" the older heir said loudly, not believing what was happening. limbo being in hell's domain made heaven almost nothing compared to the other, the polar kingdom was already the strongest one before, but owning another kingdom? it made hell pathetically strong.
"we can, jungkook. because we have a contract prohibiting us to do anything against him." rhea cursed quietly, storming out of the room without looking back. everything was going in the worst way, and instead of an ally, the demon ended up being a curse.
yeonjun managed to do in two months, what hyukjun tried for years.
"how the fuck he did that? we were able to hold hyukjun back for years!" jungkook held his head on his hands, feeling stress taking over his body. it was worse than having hyukjun wanting war, because now heaven simply didn't stand a chance.
ten years of contract didn't seem much when they could get slaughtered as soon as the said time ended.
"we held hyukjun back because we could spy and intervene in his plans. we can't do that with king daniel, we have a contract risking your mother's life." ann looked down, shaking her head slightly.
the woman understood, yeonjun thought about this way before having the crown on his head, he signed the deal knowing everything it could do for him. yeonjun was way too smart, way too methodical, way too calculating and precise. yeonjun was a way bigger threat to heaven than hyukjun ever was. so suddenly, having a deal with him got more like a death sentence than a safety measure. maybe they did sold their souls and kingdom to the devil, all without knowing, all thinking to be the best option.
king daniel had tricked heaven's queens without even being king yet.
