𝑻𝒉𝒆 red haired sighed heavily, his own room felt cold and suffocating, a gathering of memories he cherished with his life but craved to forget. a reminder of sweet smiles decorated by dimples, of glossy lips that tasted like raspberries, of dark brown eyes who embraced him like a physical type of home never managed to. either way, he accepted it, the coldness and suffocation, as if it was the only thing he could have; the fearfulness of being alone.

the room was quiet, his barely notable breathing not doing the job of filling the ambiance with a minimal sound. yeonjun couldn't hear his breathing just like he couldn't hear his heart, as if he was left to being a dead body with the dream of living, an impossible dream for that matter. he would die soon, it was already a certainty, so the thought of having a functioning body while a dead soul didn't seem too much of a difference in his eyes.

the snake on his lap moved itself to wrap it's long body around the king's arm, the head being lifted as if trying to stare at yeonjun. the male gave kalila, previously mira's and then ruby's snake, a tilt of his head along with a soft hum. it was weird to think the animal had went through almost as many losses as him, the same people getting taken from them.

"i miss her too." yeonjun ran his fingers through the snake's black skin, not sure if it felt comforting or painful. kalila reminded him of not only his mother, but his sister too. he was sure both would be disappointed with him if alive, but they were dead, so he knew it didn't matter. "i'm sorry for not being able to protect them. my best was never enough."

the animal didn't seem too keen of the words, only staring at the demon with it's black eyes. the intensity made yeonjun avert his gaze, bothered by how his own mind read the stare as judgmental, as if telling him how much he was covered in flaws and mistakes, of how much he was turning putrid from inside out, and worst, doing it all willingly.

yeonjun closed his eyes for a moment, throwing his head to rest on the back of the small couch as he faced the ceiling. he allowed himself to wish, only for a second, about things he knew were far from his reach. the male wished everything was easier, he wished he could have his family back, he wished he could have someone, he wished he could go back months and fix all his mistakes, he wished he could have soobin, he wished he could love soobin, see soobin, touch soobin. he wished for soobin.

the single second ended, and he opened his eyes, burying his pointless wishes deep inside of him with a blink. yeonjun's eyes went back to the snake, and this time, he kept them there, fixed in the fake judgment his own mind created and accepting it. dealing with hate was way easier, he spent his life doing so, he was born and raised to do so; being hated. yeonjun could always take being hated.

"come in." the king said coldly after hearing the knock on his door, empty eyes still glued to kalila's ones.

the room was opened and chanhee stepped inside, his crimson wings glistening under the light as he stared at the taller's back. he closed the door gently before approaching the other, standing in front him and delicately caressing the snake, averting his eyes to yeonjun after.

"jimin said you called me." the red haired nodded, taking the snake out of his lap and putting it on the couch before getting up. he stared at chanhee, raising his hand and caressing the fairy's cheek with the back of his fingers. the male had a thin eyeliner on his eyes, dark and glossy red lips and naturally pinkish cheeks. the look suited him in yeonjun's eyes.
