𝑻𝒉𝒆 angel had his chin resting on his knees as he hugged his own legs, still on the armchair in the grand library. taehyun had left already, after throwing at him words that soobin both needed and dreaded to hear, and so the prince was left alone, sat for probably more than an hour and thinking incessantly. it seemed like every time he met the reaper, he ended up needing to munch on his thoughts until he found something close to an answer, or acceptance. this time, however, finding any of both was proved to be almost impossible.
soobin could understand what he needed to do, what was the best thing to do and why it was the best option in the first place, but wanting to do it was difficult, and being ready to was even more. if he was being honest, he envied taehyun and beomgyu's relationship, he wanted to be able to solve problems too, be able to talk things out, be able to understand each other and give each other space. he wanted to be able to be happy with yeonjun, to be with him. but it wasn't the case, they weren't even close to what the gargoyle and reaper were and had, and the angel knew that for right now they would never be.
he missed yeonjun, he really did, but not the handsome face and sly smirk. soobin missed danny, the warm eyes that embraced him like home, the gentle smile that made him feel like everything was worth it, the loving touches that showed him how love felt when right, the kind soul that made him fall in love, the caring brother and friend that filled soobin with admiration, and the delicate heart he could hear beating for him, along his own as a symphony made to be only played together, one for another, one with another, never apart.
it was hard to understand what happened to that danny along the way, even harder to pinpoint when the warm eyes started to turn dead, when the gentle smile faded, when the loving touches turned empty, when the kind soul turned dark, when the caring person turned indifferent and when the delicate heart morphed into a stone, not playing any symphony anymore. it killed soobin when he looked at yeonjun right now, it made him bleed and want to cry, because his mind was still filled with memories of a demon teasing him with flirty remarks and making him melt under a warm laugh.
daniel looked, acted and felt like a completely different person. not a putrid one like the black haired said to the male himself, way less a monster, but just dead. it seemed like the king had lost all his liveliness, all his will to smile and all his carefreeness. like he had lost everything that made him so beautiful, so lovable, so kind and so strong. soobin knew yeonjun lost himself between the hurtful lack of words and the stubbornness of not wanting to be apart of each other. it was a shame, though, for something so beautiful to be lost and replaced with nothing at all.
it made the angel wonder, made him think about if he had said he loved yeonjun too when they were in the greenhouse. then maybe, they would be together now, maybe he would still received pretty smiles, maybe he would still be cherished and loved, maybe yeonjun would still laugh, and love, and joke, and try, and live. it wasn't his fault, he knew it wasn't, soobin knew he didn't say the three words back because of hurt and trauma, but he still wondered, if that one moment was different, would yeonjun still be himself, still be happy and still be alive? he, nor anyone, would ever know.
the soft knock on the library's big doors took soobin out of his thoughts, making him avert his eyes to the entry and watch as a flower fairy came inside. they were pretty, as always, and soobin had the faint memory of having seen them before, but he wasn't sure when or where. the fairy bowed, stopping a couple steps in front of him.
"your highness, forgive me for the bother, but there is someone who wants to see you. he's in the entry hall." soobin blinked a single time, putting his mind into place and out of the deep and quite bothersome thoughts he was having. he nodded softly before offering the other a small smile.
