𝑻𝒉𝒆 black haired was sat on his bed, legs crossed while ann stood behind him, gently drying his hair with a tower while murmuring the same song from before. he had puffy and red eyes, sniffing from time to time, but staying in his mother's embrace for a while had managed to make him stop crying. she never asked why, only holding soobin close until he was okay enough to stop sobbing.

"there you go, sweetie." the queen said softly, pulling the towel away from the younger's head and caressing his shoulder. he had an oversized fluffy sweater on, getting almost swallowed by the piece of clothing, which somehow comforted him just enough. soobin hummed, showing he heard the woman, and turned around to look at her.

ann was incredibly pretty, her black long hair fell on her shoulders in waves like dark waterfalls, contrasting with the bright white feathers of her wings and shiny crown on her head. her hazel eyes dripped warmth and care, as if she was meant to give love to others, meant to be a mother, and her nose and cheeks were dotted by small and light brown freckles. soobin knew she had a bunny smile too, more similar to jungkook's than his, but the dimples on her cheeks were unmistakably from where he got his own, though her's were smaller. he really looked like her, even if as some type of different version.

"what is it, honey?" the woman brushed her fingers on soobin's bangs, carefully putting them in place. the male looked at her as if wanting to ask a question but not sure of how and if he really should, so she just waited patiently, not wanting him to feel forced or pressured.

soobin furrowed his brows softly, it was a strange thing, to be taken care of by someone who wasn't yeonjun, that is. of course, the way the woman act and said was completely different from the demon, so he couldn't quite compare and choose which one he preferred more. he liked both, or at least, used to like when yeonjun did it anyway. the idea of happening again brought a lump to his throat and made him nauseous, he most definitely didn't want the king touching him ever again. still, he knew he kept on loving the male.

"can i ask you something?" he wasn't sure of what to say, of how to say it, in fact, but his mind was in so much conflict with his heart that he needed a word of clarification. soobin loved yeonjun, of course he still did, but he didn't want to be with the male anymore, he didn't think he could, even if his biggest wish was for them to work. they had reached a point where it was too far gone, too toxic to be fixed, and the angel knew, taemin had told him, that giving up on himself just to stay with yeonjun wasn't worth it. he knew it was okay to give up on him, he had already done it the moment he saw a knife pressed on his chest, but it still hurt.

maybe he and yeonjun were never built to last, after all.

"of course, anything." ann nodded, gently pushing her hair off her shoulder and tucking a strand behind her ear. she wanted to help soobin, even if just by answering questions and being there, even when not knowing what she was helping him from, even after he pushed her away over and over and treated her like a stranger. it wasn't his fault after all, she was indeed a stranger, even if it tore her apart to admit it.

"when do you know it's time to stop, time to g-give up?" the male voice wavered, words almost not leaving his lips as his eyes got filled by tears again. the idea of giving up on yeonjun hurt him a lot, but every time he remembered how the demon almost killed him, it hurt even more. maybe that was his answer, after all, the fact he felt more pain than happiness when with the king.

"it depends, honey. but i think an easy way to tell it is considering, do you think you can live the rest of your life like this?" soobin held his breath for a moment before bursting in tears; no, he couldn't. he could never live the rest of his life hurting like that, getting stepped on over and over just to be taken care of later. at some point, even if hurting, he was still happy and still felt like he could go on, but not now, not like this.
