She just kissed him. His mouth fell open and he looked at everyone in the living room. They all had the same shocked expression.

"What just— she— I'm not— why—" he struggled to get out the words.

Ben waved his hand, gesturing Rodrick to come into the living room. He did, wobbling slightly because his knees felt weak.

He sat down on one of the couches, mouth still hanging open.

"She just kissed me," he said, still in disbelief.

"It was just a peck on the cheek," Barry told him. "So that doesn't really count."

"Her lips touched him, Barry," Ben said. "Give him some hope here."

"So... what does this mean?" Rodrick asked.

"She's totally into you," Ben said.

"Or she just saw the mistletoe and thought she had to do it," Barry told him.

"You guys are no help," Rodrick muttered. He looked to Trista and Lexi. "You two are girls, what's going on in her mind? What did the kiss mean?"

"I'm not that close to Y/N," Trista said with a shrug.

Rodrick turned to Lexi. "Please help me," he pleaded. "I'm so lost."

"Well, there could be a number of reasons," Lexi said. "She may or may not like you and took that as an opportunity to show you or she saw the mistletoe and thought of the tradition."

"Girls tell each other everything, right?" he asked. "Does she like me?"

"I know the answer to that," Lexi said. "But I'm not going to share that with you because it wouldn't be fair to Y/N."

Rodrick sighed. "Well— what do I do when she walks in?" he asked.

"Wait for her to speak," Lexi told him. "Don't demand anything just wait for her to tell you what it was about. Understand?"

He nodded.

"Lexi, this juice is so good," Y/N said as she entered the living room. Her cup was full. She must've gotten a refill. She sat on the couch beside Rodrick. "When I'm done with this cup could you drive me home?"

He nodded. "Yeah, of course," he whispered, scratching the back of his neck.

Everyone sipped their juice in silence.

"We should do this again sometime," Y/N said suddenly. "You know, have a movie night with all of us."

Everyone nodded along. "Sounds good to me," Lexi said.

A few minutes later, it was still painfully quiet and Y/N had finished her drink. Lexi told her to leave her cup on the table and so she did. Her and Rodrick said goodbye to everyone before they left Lexi's and hopped in his van. Rodrick waited for Y/N to buckle her seatbelt before he backed out of Lexi's driveway. He turned on his music and nervously drummed his fingers on his steering wheel. He felt his thoughts wander to dark places. Had Y/N meant anything by that kiss? Or was Barry right? Did she only do it because there was mistletoe above them? He wanted to ask her about it but he remembered what Lexi said. So he kept quiet.

When they arrived at Y/N's house, she turned to him and smiled. Rodrick turned to her and mirrored her smile. Maybe she would tell him now.

He felt excitement rise in him as her mouth opened. He waited for the words he wanted to hear. The words he had wanted to hear for a long time.

"Thanks for driving me," Y/N told him. He felt his hope deflate and nodded slowly.

"Of course," he said.

She reached for the door handle and opened it. "Bye, Rodrick."

"Bye, Y/N," he whispered as she hopped out of his van and walked up to her house.

He sighed and rested his head on his steering wheel. Maybe if she meant it she would've told me, he thought sadly. He shook his head. Of course she didn't mean it. It was the mistletoe. Y/N would never kiss me and mean it.

He slowly pulled out of her driveway and made his way home, falling into a void of self-doubt.
