Y/N sat in the cafeteria with Rodrick, Lexi, Ben and Barry. It had been three weeks since Rodrick's mom found the dirty magazine in his backpack meaning this was the last week he had of being grounded.
"Thank goodness you're almost free," Ben said. "You'd probably miss the dance if your mom added another week."
"Yeah," Rodrick whispered. His eyes flickered to Y/N at the mention of the dance. He wanted to ask her to go with him.
"Speaking of the dance," Barry began with a smile. "I asked if Trista could show up and the principal is allowing it!"
"That's amazing, Barry," Y/N told him with a smile. "I hope you two win King & Queen!"
"Hey, what about us?" Ben asked, pointing at him and Lexi.
"You two don't deserve it," Rodrick muttered, earning a smack on the back of the head by Ben and peas to be thrown at him by Lexi. He scowled and brushed the peas off of him.
"Y/N and Rodrick are the only ones who don't have a date," Lexi said.
"Who said I don't have a date?" Y/N asked. From the corner of her eye, she saw Rodrick frown.
Lexi gasped. "Who is it?" she asked.
"I'm just joking," Y/N said, taking a bite of her lunch. "I don't have a date." Rodrick felt a spark of hope ignite in him.
"That's because you're too much of a wimp to get a date," Ben teased.
Lexi smacked his arm. "Piss off. She can get whoever she wants. There are so many guys and girls who would love to be Y/N's date." Lexi turned to Y/N and gave her a smile. "Come to the bathroom with me. We can discuss your date options."
"Hey, you can discuss date options here," Ben said, slipping his fingers around Lexi's arm. She shook him off and stood up. She placed a kiss on his lips, making Rodrick and Barry gag.
"Come on, Y/N," Lexi said, taking Y/N's hand. She led her to the girls bathroom and they stood beside the sink. "So I have an idea."
"And that is?" Y/N waved her hand, gesturing for her to continue.
"You're going to get a good looking date and Rodrick will get jealous," Lexi told her, smiling. "Then he'll have to confess."
Y/N scratched the back of her neck. "I don't know, Lexi... I think that's a bit unfair to Rodrick."
"So? He needs to ask you out one way or another," Lexi told her. "And I can name several people who wanna get with you."
Y/N sighed. "But I don't want him to be upset."
"He won't be upset for long because he'll get so jealous that he'll feel obliged to confess to you," Lexi told her. Y/N still looked hesitant. Lexi cupped Y/N's face. "Look, I'm your best friend and I know what I'm talking about. This is going to work. Just trust me."
Y/N heaved a sigh. "Okay... Now who should I ask?"
—————Ten Minutes Later—————
Lexi returned to the table with the boys, Y/N no where in sight.
"Lexi, where's Y/N?" Rodrick asked.
Lexi smiled. "She's finding herself a date."
"Really? By herself?" Ben asked incredulously. Lexi nodded and pointed to a table a few feet away from theirs. The boys followed her direction to see Y/N standing beside Brad from the basketball team.
Rodrick scowled at them. Brad ran a hand through his blonde curls and licked his lips. He was looking Y/N up and down as if she weren't a person but a mere object. He clenched his jaw as Brad nodded to something Y/N had said. He knew what he was nodding to and it made him terribly sick.
Y/N walked over to the table and sat back down, Brad still smirking at her in the distance.
"So..." Lexi said, gesturing for Y/N to speak.
"He said yes," Y/N replied.
Lexi squealed. Ben was in shock at the fact that Y/N had grown the courage to ask Brad out. Barry gave Y/N a high five. And Rodrick wanted nothing more than to crawl into a dark corner and die.
"This dance is going to be so much fun," Lexi said.
Yeah, watching the girl you like dance with some douche bag is so much fun, Rodrick thought as he rolled his eyes. He sighed quietly and held his head in his hands. Why am I so upset? It's not like Y/N was going to ask me and Brad is hot, why wouldn't she ask him?
He continued to think these thoughts, causing his eyes to sting. Was he about to cry? He quickly got up from the table and darted out of the cafeteria, making his way to the bathroom. He went into one of the many empty stalls and locked it, sitting on top of the toilet seat. He let out a deep breath and looked up, clenching his jaw. Don't cry, don't cry, don't cry.
His words were pointless. His tears slid down his face. He gripped his hair and told himself to stop. He pressed his palms to his eyes, hoping to stop the tears. But they continued to fall. He let out a shaky breath and clasped a hand to his mouth.
He knew it was stupid to cry but the thought of Y/N being with someone else— someone like Brad— made him so upset.
He's better than I'll ever be, Rodrick told himself. Y/N deserves someone better than me. And that's what she got.
He sat in the bathroom all lunch until his eyes were tired of crying. Then he went to class like nothing had happened.
Author's note: before you get angry with me, no, there will be no romance between y/n and brad. y/n could care less about him, she just wants rodrick to confess. anyway, i'm going to try to update again today so be ready for that. i hope you have a good night/day. i appreciate you!
