When Y/N climbed out of the Heffley car with Greg and Rodrick, she glanced around at everyone in the parking lot. She didn't understand why everyone wanted to come to the pool so bad.
"I can't believe it's so crowded here," Greg said as if reading her mind.
Y/N nodded along, still eyeing everyone in the parking lot indifferently.
"School isn't even out yet. Maybe we should come back," Greg suggested as he started to lead everyone towards the entrance.
"How about never? Does never sound good?" Rodrick asked from in front of Y/N. His arms were full of both his and Y/N's things which he refused to let her carry. She had offered to take their towels but Rodrick insisted he wear them around his neck as scarves.
She glanced at him, noticing the sour face he wore. Even behind his sunglasses she saw the look in his eye that said, 'Get me the fuck out of here.'
"Boys, a family swim is a great way to kick off the summer," Mrs. Heffley said from behind them, Manny clinging onto her like a baby koala.
"Let's not forget, opening day is free!" Mr. Heffley exclaimed happily.
"That's a good point," Y/N mumbled with a shrug.
Rodrick turned to her. "It was free for you anyway," he said. "Mom was going to make me pay for me and you if we had to."
"Rodrick, that's not true," Mrs. Heffley called. "You insisted on paying for Y/N if opening day wasn't free. I didn't even bring it up."
Rodrick pursed his lips and kept quiet the rest of the way to the pool.
Once they reached the change rooms, Greg frowned.
"I hate going in there," he grumbled.
"Remember, move fast and keep your eyes down," said Rodrick before he disappeared into the change room.
Greg gave Y/N a pleading look and she shrugged. "Sorry," she said before she hurried into the women's change room.
Thankfully Y/N was already wearing her bathing suit underneath her cover-up so she didn't have to worry about getting dressed.
"Right this way, sweetheart," Mrs. Heffley said as she led the way out.
The two of them went outside where the pool was located and tried their best to find a spot.
"Right here should be good," Mrs. Heffley said as she placed down her towel and her foldable chair. She turned to Y/N who was empty handed. "Where's your things, honey?"
"Rodrick has them," she replied. "I just hope he doesn't drop anything in there."
"You can sit on my towel for now," Mrs. Heffley told her as she seated herself into her chair.
Y/N nodded and sat down. She glanced around at all of the people in the pool. She definitely would not be swimming.
Seconds later, Mr. Heffley and Rodrick hurried over and set down all of their things.
Mr. Heffley placed his foldable chair down beside Mrs. Heffley's and leaned back.
Rodrick fumbled with one of the chairs he was holding before he set it up and placed Y/N's towel on it. "There you go," he said as he patted it for her.
"Thank you," she said as she sat down.
"Anything for you," he whispered before he set up his own chair.
Once Rodrick's chair was ready, he started to place down a speaker and a cardboard box along with a sign he and Y/N had made. The sign was created so that he could advertise and promote his music hence the reason his band's name was written on it.
