A few minutes before lunch, Rodrick waited by Y/N's locker and continuously glanced at his phone to check the time.

When the bell finally rang, a stampede of students filed into the main locker area. Rodrick's eyes scanned the crowd until he found Y/N. He gave her a smile as she walked over to him.

He took all her stuff from her hands so she could unlock her locker. Once she put in the combination and opened the door, he handed it back to her so she could put it away.

"Where would you like to go for lunch?" Rodrick asked as Y/N shut her locker door.

"Wherever is fine with me," Y/N replied as they started to make their way to the school lobby.

"We could go to Booster Juice," Rodrick suggested. "So you can get a smoothie and then we can find something to eat in the food court."

Y/N nodded and took Rodrick's hand. They left the school and crossed the parking lot to Rodrick's van. Once they hopped in and buckled their seatbelts, Rodrick started to back out of his parking spot and drive away from the school.

"My mom is having this family game night thing," Rodrick announced. Y/N turned to him. "And I wanted to know if you'd come over and be my partner. Greg always brings Rowley and Mom and Dad are each other's partners. I don't usually play but I thought maybe with you there it might be fun."

Y/N smiled. "I'd love to," she said.

Rodrick mirrored her expression and continued to drive to the mall.

When they arrived, Rodrick opened Y/N's door for her and held out his hand which she gladly took. Then, he escorted her to the entrance of the mall. Together, they walked to the food court and joined the line that had already formed at Booster Juice.

As they waited, Rodrick wrapped his arms around Y/N and placed his chin on the top of her head. He made them slowly sway back and forth which made Y/N smile.

"Guess what," Rodrick said as they moved forward in line.

"What?" Y/N asked. She turned her head to look up at him.

"I've been writing a new song," he told her. "And it's about you."

"Yeah?" she said, tilting her head. He nodded and kissed her cheek. "Can I hear it?"

"Not yet," he replied. "I still need to finish up the lyrics and talk it over with the rest of the band."

"Is this my Christmas present?" she asked him with a smile.

"Well, if you want it to be then yes," he said. "But I already have your Christmas present ready."

"I have yours picked out too," she told him as they advanced further in the line.

Rodrick let out a playful gasp. "Did you finally get me my lump of coal?"

"Yeah, obviously," Y/N said with a laugh. Rodrick chuckled and slowly took his arms away from her before taking her hand in his.

When Y/N finally ordered her smoothie, Rodrick took her to her favourite restaurant in the food court and got them both something to eat. Then, they found a table to sit together at.

They finished their food quickly while making conversation in between bites. When they were done, Rodrick threw away their garbage and watched Y/N sip on her smoothie.

"I still don't understand how you drink that crap," he said.

"Says the one who drinks—"

Rodrick clasped a hand to Y/N's mouth. "Shh! You don't need to finish," he laughed. He slowly took his hand away from her mouth and let it rest on her thigh. He gently drew circles on her leg with his thumb. "At least I tried your smoothie. You won't even try my mixed fountain drink."
