•[Pinky Promise]•The power went out and Kinney looked around. Kuroo grinned to himself. He was about to lose again, but now they both lost.
"M-maybe we should-
"Times up!" Kuroo grabbed Kinney by the arm and dragged him away from the Pacman machine. Kinney tried to pry his hand away but Kuroo's grip was insanely tight. He's been distracting Kuroo as best as he could until Kenma got here. He's not sure when that would be, but Kinney had faith.
"Let me go!"
"Shut up brat! I've waited long enough for Kenma to come around. I might as well just kill you and leave you here so he could find you. Or maybe I could make you watch me kill him instead. After everything we've done together he let her defile me! I was the one with the problems! Me!"
Kinney was pulled out of the gaming room and was tugged. He knows he's no match for Kuroo when it comes to fighting, so he'll have to do something else.
Kinney used this to his advantage and punched Kuroo in his side as hard as he could. Kuroo let his hand go and Kinney fell to the floor. The boy pulled himself up to his feet, his sneakers scraping against the floor, and ran.
"I'm going to kill you." Kuroo ran after the boy and Kinney nearly screamed at how fast Kuroo was. From speed to strength.
Kinney grabbed the railing and slid down. He hopped off and continued down with Kuroo following right behind him.
Kinney could feel his heart pumping in his ears and his lungs burning already due to fear. Kinney was grabbed by the neck of his collar and slammed into the wall.
Kuroo picked him up by his neck and glared at the boy. Kinney kicked his feet and held onto Kuroo's wrist.
"If if were Y/N...I'd be dead already probably. But you're nothing like her, more like your father. Playing games for nearly forty minutes now and you made no move to possibly throw a bowling pin to my head, or use my own knife against me." He laughs.
Kinney punched him. Once, twice, three times. Kuroo grunted and dropped the boy once more. Kinney punched him in his crotch which got Kuroo to his knees.
Kinney raised his leg to kick the man but Kuroo caught his ankle, punching Kinney in the nose. Kuroo stood to his feet and kicked Kinney in the stomach. The young boy coughed, heaving for air.
Kuroo pulled Kinney by his hair, his lips grazing the boy's ear. "You're going to be pre-workout."
Kinney glared at the man. "Go to hell." Kinney stabbed Kuroo in his hand twice before running off again. As Kuroo was busy holding him up against the wall he reached for his pocketknife.
Kinney took a left, ditching his shoes for a quieter run. The boy heard Kuroo shout and dipped right, making it around to the food court. Kinney pulled himself over one of the counters and pulled his knees up to his chest, clutching the pocket knife with shaky hands.
"Dad please hurry." He whispers to himself. Kinney wiped the blood from his nose and exhaled a shaky breath.
The thought of Reno crossed his mind. When he first met the boy he found him annoying, loud, too energetic on the things that didn't need energy. But as they grew older he could barely the boy's antics, listen to him ramble about spiders, or snakes, even sharks and how dolphins are more dangerous.
He remembers during Eimi's and Keitaro's birthday their first encounter.
"Hey Reno, let's go to your room where it's quiet."
"Okay!"
When they got there Reno took out his Lego set, spilling all the pieces on the floor. Kinney just stared at him as he picked through pieces and began putting them together.
"Hey Reno?"
"I'm not going to make an iguana this time I promise. I recently learned how to make a squirrel. Even though it's not as cool as-
"I'm confused."
He stopped talking and looked up at Kinney. His hair was to the side, his knees pulled up to his chin.
"About what?"
"About me being different."
"Different how?"
"Like uncle Suna and Kita." He whispers. Reno was still confused on what the boy meant.
"What do you mean?"
Kinney picked up a Lego piece and stared. "I...I like you." Reno laughed.
"I like you too though. That doesn't make us different."
"No, you don't understand. I like you to the point where I want to kiss you and hold hands and stuff. Like the girls do with their boyfriends in school."
"Oh. Oh...now I understand."
Kinney his his face in embarrassment, nearly being driven to tears.
"Hmm...but how can you be so sure?" Kinney looked back at him, his vision blurry. "I mean...I haven't seen you kiss anyone. Or even try to hold their hand."
Reno then stood. "I mean I'm not sure I like boys or girls, but I never tried either so maybe we can. To find a solution."
Kinney wanted to slap the boy for being so stupid. He ventured off on what this situation could mean to him. Kinney stood to his feet and pocketed the Lego piece.
"Promise not to tell anyone?" Kinney says setting out his pinky. Reno smiled with a nod.
"Pinky promise. Cross my heart and hope to die!" He beams.
And they did. It was just a peck and it confirmed for Kinney. Reno didn't say anything about it though, he just shrugged and said, "see." Kinney didn't push him for more either. He just asked him if was mad at him, which Reno said he wasn't.
Then when they went out to camp with Aran, they kissed again by the lake. And held hands for a minute. A solid minute before Reno got dirty catching tadpoles or whatever it was.
Kinney wiped his eyes and sniffed. He doesn't want to die. He wants to see Reno again, to hear him talk about tadpoles and disgusting frogs.
But, he also doesn't want Kenma to know. He's seen the way Kenma has grimaced when Kita and Suna was in the same room with each other.
Kinney heard a bang and clanking sounds.
"Found ya!" Kinney was pulled up by his collar and dragging over the counter. He had no time to react before he was dropped to the floor.
"You're gonna wish you never did that!" Kuroo took Kinney's face and connected it to the floor. He kicked his stomach so hard he flipped the boy over onto his back.
Kinney could taste blood and his stomach ached. Kuroo stood over Kinney, panting in rage.
"How could you make me do this?" Kuroo coughed. "How could you?!" When he got no answer Kuroo dropped to his knees.
"Fine." He straddled the boy, taking the knife from his weakly clenched fist. "I'll do it myself." He whispers. "He's not here to watch you die, but I'll show it to him after."
"Kuroo!" Words echoed and sneakers screeched against the tiles. Kuroo looked over to see Kenma running full speed at him. A smile spread across his face and he stood swiftly.
Kuroo ran up to Kenma and threw a punch only for it to get blocked.
Their eyes met head on and Kenma really could not believe that he was looking his long dead friend in the eyes.
"Glad you could make it...friend."
