Hiccup's P.O.V

Toothless and I have been flying for over an hour now. “Perhaps we should take a break. What do you think bud?” I asked. Toothless bellowed in response and we flew down towards the ground. He landed graciously and I dismounted him not so graciously. The ground was covered in ice and snow causing me to slip and fall on my back. “Watch your step there Hiccup!” A cheerful voice called. I looked up to see a boy my age flying towards me. “A little warning next time Jack.” I huffed as I tried to get up. Jack floated down and landed right next to me. “Where’s your sense of balance kid?” Jack teased as he offered his hand to me. “Thanks.” I spat. “Ouch what’s with the attitude?” Jack asked seeming a little bit hurt. “Sorry just had a rough morning.” I explained. “Oh got it.” Jack stated as he leaned on his staff. “So care to explain why this is the only area with snow.” I said as I gestured to the snow around us. “Relax I just got here. By tomorrow morning the island will be covered.” Jack explained. “Great.” I said with sarcasm. “Don’t tell me you don’t like my snow.” Jack whined. “Oh no I love freezing my behind off.” I joked. “Good cause just for that remark I’ll make it ten times colder.” Jack teased. “Ugh Oh come one I was just joking.” I cried. “So was I.” Jack said with a smirk. “So how’s the overgrown iguana?” Jack asked as he flew into the air and landed on Toothless’ back. Toothless thrashed violently until Jack flew off. “Good I see.” Jack laughed as he landed next to me again. “How are the other Guardians?” I asked as I walked over to Toothless and started to pet him. “Alright I guess I haven’t visited them in a while.” Jack uttered as he twirled his staff. “Really you haven’t even gone and pranked Bunnymund?” I joked. “I suppose I should hop on that. Perhaps you can come and help me?” Jack offered. “No thank you.” I laughed. “Yeah you couldn’t keep up with me any way; you’d probably get us caught.” Jack teased. I rolled my eyes and picked up a handful of snow. After a short silence I mustered enough courage to ask Jack about my nightmares. “Um Jack?” I tried. Jack looked up at me and assured me to go on. “I’ve been having these nightmares lately.” I explain. Jack’s eyes widened as he shot me a confused expression. “That can’t be right.” Jack whispered. Jack and I have been friends for a few months now and in that time he told me the true danger of nightmares. He had told me the story of how he had become a Guardian during his fight with Pitch Black. “What are they about?” Jack asked. “Well the first one I had was about my fight with the Red Death.” I started. “Wait you’re first one? You mean you’ve had more than one nightmare and haven’t told me?” Jack asked sternly as he gripped his staff tighter causing frost to climb up the long piece of wood. “I know it’s just that it’s really starting to worry me.” I tried. “Why?” Jack snapped. “Well why shouldn’t it? “ I asked.  Jack shook his head in anger as he leaned on his staff. “Are these dreams scaring you Hiccup?” Jack asked. “What?! No I’m not scared of anything!” I argued. “Relax; I’m not trying to poke fun at you. You know what nightmares mean Hiccup, this is serious. Now answer the question.” Jack demanded. I looked at his face before answering him and saw that he was indeed serious. For the guardian of Fun, seriousness didn’t suit him, it was rather intimidating. “A bit I suppose.” I answered. “What happened in your nightmares to make you feel this way?” Jack interrogated. “I dreamt that I had lost Toothless.” I said as I walked over to my dragon and scratched under his chin. Jack chuckled half heartily and twirled his staff. “Hiccup there is nothing to be afraid of, Toothless is right here.” Jack stated as he pointed at Toothless. “You are just as strong as him, remember that okay?” Jack comforted. I shook my head in understanding as I took in what he was saying. “Thanks Jack.” I thanked. “Yeah, yeah now enough of this depressing stuff.” Jack begged. “Alright then, think fast!” I shouted as I launched the snowball at Jack. He dodged it with ease and flashed a mischievous smile. “Not one of your best ideas kid.” Jack laughed as he bent down to pick up a handful of snow. “Would you quite calling me kid, we are the same age.” I said as I ran behind Toothless to evade Jack’s snowballs. “Not really I’m technically about 300 years old.” Jack laughed as he threw a snowball at Toothless. The dragon growled impatiently and launched himself at Jack. “Whoa!” Jack cried as he was knocked down by Toothless. “Ha you should think twice next time.” I teased. “You started it.” Jack exclaimed as he poked Toothless with his staff. The dragon roared in anger and pinned Jack down. “Just call off your overgrown lizard.” Jack huffed. I shook my head before I made my way towards them. “Hiccup?” A voice called. “What?” I exhaled as I looked around. “Up here fishbone.” Another voice called. I looked up to see the gang with all their dragons flying above me. They landed and dismounted their dragons before talking again. “Do you think they can see me?” Jack asked. “I don’t know.” I whispered.  “Don’t know what?” Astrid asked as she walked up to me. “Uh nothing.” I stated quickly. “Could you get him off?!” Jack groaned as he tried to squirm out from underneath Toothless. “Toothless let him go.” I commanded. Toothless scoffed and let Jack go. “Took you long enough.” Jack complained as he stood up and swung his staff over his shoulder. “So what are you guys doing here?” I tried. “Obviously looking for you.” Tuffnut stated. “I thought I told you guys.-“ I tried but was cut off by Astrid. “Yeah well save it. We were worried about you.” Astrid explained. “Correction she was worried about you.” Snotlout added. I blushed lightly knowing that Astrid was worried about me. “Is this the girl you have been telling me about?” Jack asked with a glint of mischief in his eyes. “Shut up.” I murmured. “What was that?” Astrid asked.  “What was what?” I asked trying to avoid answering her question. “You’re acting really weird Hiccup.” Astrid stated.  “Nice going lover boy.” Jack teased.  Jack flew over to Snotlout and observed him. “Is this the guy that gives you a hard time?” Jack asked as he poked Snotlout with his staff. “More or less.” I said as I shrugged my shoulders. “Who are you talking to?” Fishlegs asked. “What the heck?” Snotlout exclaimed as he put his hand where Jack had just poked him. Jack chuckled at Snotlout’s reaction and continued to pester him. “Alright who’s doing that?” Snotlout asked. Everyone looked at one another in confusion. “Doing what?” asked Astrid. “Poking me or something. I’m not sure I just keep feel something touching me.” Snotlout explained. I couldn’t help but laugh softly at Snotlout’s state of panic. “Maybe it’s a Changewing.” Fishlegs added. “What?!” Snotlout yelled as he started to jump around. “Calm down Snotlout its nothing-“I tried but stopped in midsentence as I saw Snotlout walk straight through Jack. My eyes widened in panic as I saw him fall to his knees gasping for air. “I almost forgot what that felt like.” Jack gasped as he tried to get up. I quickly ran to his side. “Are you alright Jack?” I asked as I helped him up. “Yeah I’m fine just a bit shaken up I suppose.” Jack said as he waved me off. I stepped back and gave him a scolding look. “You’re lying.” I said. “Whatever dragon boy.” Jack teased. “I should get going.” Jack replied. I rolled my eyes as I pat him on the back. “Fine but I’m expecting Berk to be covered in snow by the time I wake up tomorrow.” I retorted. Jack chuckled lightly as he took my head into a headlock as ruffled my hair. “Better get to work then.” Jack said with a wink as he took off into the sky.  “Um what just happened?” Snotlout asked. I looked up to see all them giving me strange looks. “Um I can explain.” I tried. “Yeah you better.” Astrid said as she punched my arm. “Can you please stop doing that?” I begged as I rubbed my aching shoulder. “Explanation please?” Astrid asked again.  “Who’s Jack?” Snotlout asked as he nudged in front of Astrid.  “Was he the one poking me?” Snotlout asked. “Don’t be ridiculous Snotlout no one was there.” Fishlegs added. “Sorry guys I just haven’t been feeling too good lately.” I lied. “Oh well get better then.”Snotlout shouted. “You’re right. How about we head to the academy and get started?” I asked. They all nodded their heads in agreement and mounted their dragons. “Last one there has to clean up the mess after training!” Snotlout yelled as he sped off and everyone followed in suit. I had flown off with them but slowed a little until I reached the back of the dragon flock. I continuously looked behind myself hoping I could get a glimpse of my friend one last time before I returned to the academy. “I hope Jack is right about those nightmares.” I thought to myself before I faced frontwards and assured Toothless to fly to the front of the group. After we had reached the front we shot off towards the academy leaving everyone else in the dust.
