Hiccup’s P.O.V

The moment I left Dunbroch Castle a sense of complete dread washed over me. Toothless had been discovered, but thankfully Jack was able to lead him away before any real damage could be done.  We really didn’t need all of the clans hunting down Toothless right now, we have enough on our plates. “Jack! Toothless!” I called once I entered the forest.  Of course there was no response at first, so I continued deeper into the woods. Let’s just say as I wandered through the forest my head wasn’t actually set on finding Jack and Toothless like it should be. My homeland was attacked, and I had died. I’m not completely over that. But I knew it wasn’t Jack’s doing, he was my friend. This was all Pitch. He was the one to round up the Outcasts and possess my friend.  In the back of my mind I knew this was just the beginning. After all that Jack had told me about Pitch, I know that he just wants to be believed in, but he can’t be believed in when the Guardians are around. I thought more and more of Pitch and his past moves, and even perhaps his plans for the future. It wasn’t until I felt a slit chill in the air did I remember why exactly I was out here. “Jack?” I called. “Over here!” Jack called. I picked up the pace until I reached an opening in the forest.  Jack and Toothless were perched upon a hill that had large stones pillared in a circular formation. I walked up the hill and met them. “Took you long enough to get here.” Jack groaned. “Not my fault you left the spot where we were supposed to recoup.” I retorted. “And it’s not my fault that some of Merida’s lackeys found the overgrown lizard here.” Jack argued. “You’re right; it’s not your fault.” I sighed. Toothless rumbled in agreement as he trotted towards me. “Hey Bud, sorry it took me so long.” I apologized. The dragon purred contently as I scratched the top of his head. “How’s it going over at the Castle? Did Rapunzel make it over there safely?” Jack questioned. “Not so good, and yes she made it safely to the Castle. Rapunzel is currently with Merida.” I answered. “What do you mean ‘not so good’?” Jack wondered. “The clans are freaking out because Berk was attacked. They fear that they will be attacked next.” I explained. “Knowing Pitch, that’s exactly what he plans to do.” Jack stated with realization. “We shouldn’t be here; we’ve walked right into a trap.” I huffed. “He’s going to try to get at us with every chance he gets.” I stated. “You’re right; we can’t let Pitch have the upper hand again.” Jack agreed.  “Pitch is just trying to get rid of us, so he can get to the Guardians. After he takes care of the Guardians he’ll be believed in again.” I explained. “I already know that!” Jack exclaimed. The young guardians slammed his staff in anger against the green grass below him causing it to freeze over. “He’s getting stronger….He is stronger.” Jack murmured. “What was that?” I asked. “Pitch wasn’t this strong before. People are frightened more now than ever. He’s using the fear of loss, and war to scare everyone. “Jack explained.  “So what do we do?” I asked. “We stop this, before more fear spreads.” Jack stated.  “How?” I inquired. “We prevent the oncoming war.” Jack answered.  I remained silent to take a moment to take it all in.  “Still didn’t answer my question, but I guess it’ll work for now.” I laughed. “We need to get back to the girls.” Jack stated. “Alright, but before we go I need to ask you something.” I said rather quickly indicating that I was a bit nervous. “Jack, are you alright?” I asked. Jack straightened slightly “Yeah, why?” He asked. “It’s just you just came back from something rather…”I trailed. “Rather intense, yeah I know. But so did you. Are you alright?” He finished. “What me? Yeah, I’m fine. Near death experiences happen to me all the time remember?” I laughed awkwardly. “Yeah but this wasn’t a near death experience Hiccup, this was ‘death’, ‘death’.” Jack explained. “True, but I’m fine.” I assured him. Jack rolled his eyes at me worryingly. “If you say so….” Jack trailed. “C’mon let’s go back to Merida and Punzie.” I stated as I mounted Toothless. “Right.” Jack agreed as he flew into the sky. I followed close behind him until Dunbroch Castle came into view. “Hiccup, land over there by the brush so Toothless can remain hidden for now.” Jack stated. I did so and landed in the shadows. Jack landed beside me and pointed towards the castle. “Look!” he exclaimed. I glanced toward the direction he was pointing to see Merida and Punzie walking out the large double door of the front of the castle. Merida’s mother and father were trailing behind her. “Merida! Stop right there!” Her mother demanded. But Merida being the strong headed lass she was paid no head to her mother’s orders. Rapunzel stopped a few feet behind Merida to speak with her parents. “What Merida is saying is true; Hiccup has indeed trained a dragon, multiple in fact!” Rapunzel tried. “I don’t care if he’s trained thousands of dragons! The point I’m trying to make Merida is that by you bringing him here is what is putting your kingdom in danger.” Queen Elinor explained. Merida stopped walking and faced her Mother. “Mum I don’t want to fight with you but there’s a bigger problem I have to worry about right now.” Merida huffed. “There’s nothing more important than your family Merida!” Her mother shouted. Merida looked at her parents in silence. “You’re right. But this is the only way I can protect my family from what’s coming.” She cried. Jack stepped out of the brush and assured me to follow him. “We should get in there.” He stated. I nodded my head in agreement. “Stay here Bud.” I told Toothless as Jack and I walked towards the bridge to the Castle. Rapunzel was standing behind Merida, looking very unsure of herself. “Merida you keep saying things like this, are you worried about the Outcasts? Is that it? If that’s the case then you should tell Hiccup to leave. After all you are the one who said they were after him.” Queen Elinor explained. “That’s not it mum! The real reason I’ve been gone is because-. “ Merida started but I cut her off. “Is because of me.” I interrupted.  Queen Elinor and King Fergus looked to me surprised. “I was supposed to take her home right away the moment she came to Berk, but then the Outcasts came.” I explained. “I am the reason why they attacked. Endangering your family and kingdom was not my intention. But then some things came up.” I tried. “What things?” Fergus asked. “Hiccup died.” Rapunzel answered. “What? That’s impossible, how is he here then?” Fergus asked. Both Merida and I looked at Rapunzel worryingly. Jack walked up to her and hugged her from behind. “It’s alright, go on and tell them. They won’t hurt you.” Jack cooed. “I healed him.” She answered Merida’s father. “How?” Queen Elinor asked. “That’s not important mum. What’s important is that we came to warn you.” Merida interrupted. “About?” Queen Elinor asked. “THE OUTCASTS!” Merida exclaimed. “All of you need to prepare for battle.” I explained. “But they’re after you Hiccup, if you leave then they won’t come.” Queen Elinor stated. “No! You’re not listening!” Merida shouted. “I’ll freeze the water surrounding the island, that way the Outcasts can get to the main land.” Jack stated before he took off. “We should get inside; Jack’s going to summon a storm.” I stated. “What are you talking about lad?” Fergus asked. “We need to get inside; we’ll talk about this in detail later.” Merida tried as she pushed both her parents across the bridge and towards the main doors to the castle. Just as we reached the door the air temperature had begun to drop. The ground was beginning to freeze over and snow fell from the sky. “Snow? Snow in July?” King Fergus inquired. Merida rolled her eyes at her parents and shoved them through the door. I walked through the door way and looked back to that Rapunzel was still standing outside on the bridge. “Rapunzel? What are you doing out there? C’mon inside before Jack really makes it cold.” I joked. She didn’t respond or react to my joke. “Rapunzel?” I called. Her back was to me so I couldn’t tell what she was looking at. “Hiccup, what is that?” She asked me. I walked to her and placed my hand on her shoulder. “What’s what?” I asked. “That!” She exclaimed as she pointed towards Toothless. Right in front of the dragon was a small orb of blue light. “A Wisp?” I inquired.

“Isn’t that what led Merida to you?” Rapunzel asked me. “Yeah it did.” I stated as I began walking towards it. I half expected it to move once I got close to it but it just floated in place. Rapunzel still stood on the bridge quite wary. She seemed uneasy as she decided to walk across. Once she came close to the spirit it disappeared and then reappeared at the entrance of the forest. “I think it wants you to follow it Punzie.” I suggested.  “Follow it?!” Rapunzel explained. “Don’t worry, I’ll go with you.” I chuckled. Toothless snorted in annoyance. “Toothless will come as well.” I quickly added. “Are you sure it’s safe?” She asked me. “Not really, but if what Merida said about them is true, then they will lead you to your fate.” I explained. “What if my fate is bad?” Rapunzel asked. “It won’t be.” I promised. “How do you know that Hiccup?” She questioned. “Because I have faith that it will.” I answered her. She smiled softly as she turned towards the entrance of the forest. “Well if you have that much faith, then so do I.” Rapunzel stated as she followed the Wisp into the forest.
