Rapunzel’s P.O.V

The flight to Corana wasn’t long in fact the trip there went by surprisingly fast. “We’re almost there Punzie.” Jack stated as he gestured towards the horizon. In the distance I could see a castle. Its image reflected off of a lake that surrounded it. It seemed so welcoming, almost like it was home.  It was still a good distance away and after all the lights didn’t start apparently until tomorrow so Jack and I made the decision to make camp for the night. “So are you excited for tomorrow Punzie?” Jack asked as he laid his staff across his lap. I nodded my head yes vigorously which in turn made Jack chuckle. “Good because tomorrow is going to be special.” Jack revealed. “Special?” I asked. “Now, now don’t go asking questions! It’s a surprise! So I won’t be giving you any hints!” Jack exclaimed. I rolled my eyes as I crossed my arms at him. “No, no! I’m not falling for that.” Jack laughed. “Fine! But you know how I feel about secrets!” I exclaimed. Suddenly Jack straightened. “Jack? Are you okay?” I asked. Jack quickly stood and turned on his heel. “Yeah of course Punzie!” He laughed awkwardly. “Is something wrong Jack?” I asked. “Nope! Not at all! I just can’t wait for your surprise tomorrow. “Jack explained. “Oh.” I said flatly. “Um I’m going to find us some fire wood, okay?” Jack struggled. “Oh okay, just be careful.” I stated. “Careful is my middle name.” Jack chuckled as he disappeared into the sky. “Jack Careful Frost.” I thought to myself. I couldn’t help but chuckle out loud at the sound of that name. Pascal crawled out from nowhere and appeared in my lap. “Hey Pascal.” I greeted as I patted him gently. The small chameleon chirped in response as he changed colors. “ Rapunzel?!” A voice exclaimed. I felt my body react to the voice in a more than surprised manner. I turned to face the voice only to see that it was my Mother. “IS that really you?” She asked. “Mother?” I inquired as I stood up. She quickly ran to me and hugged me. “Oh my poor flower are you alright? Where have you been? Oh you look famished! We need to go home and get some food in you!” Mother shouted as she began pulling me along with her. “Mother I’m fine.” I stated in attempt to be heard over her multiple remarks about going home. “Mother please let go.” I begged. But she ignored me as she continued to talk. “Mother let me go!” I snapped. She instantly released me and stared at me in pure horror. “Rapunzel, you know how I feel about raising your voice to me!” She exclaimed. “I know! I’m sorry Mother.” I apologized. “I forgive you darling but it’s time to come home now.” She sighed in impatience. “No.” I stated firmly. “Excuse me?” Mother questioned as she clenched and unclenched her fists in anger. “I’m staying here Mother.” I stated. “Oh I see, it’s because of that boy, isn’t it?” Mother inquired as she walked around me. I remained silent as I played with my hair to occupy myself. “I think he likes me Mother.” I stated.  “Likes you? Please Rapunzel that’s demented.” She laughed. “This is why you should have never left!” Mother exclaimed. As she spun on her heal and faced me. I stared at her in confusion. “This whole romance that you’ve invented just proves that you’re naïve. Why would he like you? I mean really? Look at you! You think that he’s impressed? Don’t be a dummy, come with mummy. After all Mother know best!” Mother stated firmly with opened arms. Mother’s words have always held some sort of meaning. I couldn’t help but listen, but deep down I knew she was wrong. “No!” I exclaimed. Mother lowered her arms in disappointment and then crossed them in anger. “No?” Mother inquired. “He isn’t like that Mother.” I stated. “Oh I see how it is then. Rapunzel knows best! Rapunzel is so mature now! She’s such a clever grown up, if you’re so sure then just wait and see what happens! He’s only here for a reason and it’s not you! Just wait and see! If he’s such a dream boat just put him to the test! After all Mother knows best!” Mother exclaimed as she turned away and left just as quickly as she came. “Mother?” I called out but she didn’t respond. She had left. Doubt overwhelmed me. Jack did seem uneasy when I brought up secrets. “Maybe he’s hiding something?” I asked myself.  “Rapunzel?” Jack called. I quickly turned to him and through on a fake smile to hide my fear. “Sorry for the wait.” He apologized. “No worries.” I stated. I glanced at his arms to see that he didn’t have any fire wood in his hands, beside his staff, but I knew for a fact that he didn’t want to burn that. “So where’s the firewood?” I asked. Jack straightened and combed his fingers through his hair awkwardly. “Well you see the thing is…I really dislike fire.” He laughed. “Oh that’s fine.” I fake laughed. “What is he hiding?” I asked. “No! He isn’t hiding anything Rapunzel! Stop thinking that!” I scolded myself. “You okay Punzie?” Jack asked as he sat beside me. “Yeah just tired.” I lied. “Well get some sleep then, you’ve got a big day tomorrow.” Jack stated. “Okay I think I will.” I yawned as I curled up against his side. “Good night Jack.” I yawned. “Good night Rapunzel.” Jack stated.
