Chapter 43 The Amazons
Angelov wasn't pleased that I was grounded. It meant that I would miss training and his lessons about the para-world.
Crow picked me up from school Thursday and handed me a small ice cooler with dry ice and a bag of blood inside.
I didn't think the tension I felt was one-sided. Neither of us mentioned the kiss. I swallowed the saliva in my mouth. I remembered even the parts I wanted to forget.
"Angelov wanted me to remind you he wants a copy of the Vampire essay you did with your friends for school." He said as soon as I replaced the almost empty bag in the cooler.
"I thought Amy gave him a copy last month." I opened my backpack but couldn't find a copy of the essay. "I'll get one tomorrow." I assured him zipping the bag closed.
"Make sure it is a graded copy. He's sending it to the King and Queen." He turned on the next street, my street.

A week later at a meeting with Angelov I sighed out loud.
"Am I boring you, Miss Stone?" Angelov disapprovingly refrained.
"Why haven't you mentioned feeding from a person?"
Amy squeaked like a bird in surprise.
"Quite frankly, Ms. Stone, you are resistant to almost everything dealing with being a vampire. I was under the impression you only drank the bagged blood under duress and fear of the blood lust. I didn't believe you would welcome a vampire lesson on drinking from the vein of a living, breathing, human." He crossed his ankle over his knee. His teacup held lightly over the saucer above his lap.
"But it's something I may need to know, something I may have to do at some point?" I couldn't help leaning towards him. It had been four days since I drank the bagged blood. I haven't hunted down a deer or other wildlife to supplement my diet. My fangs were harder to control. Even the simplest kiss could set them on fire.
"True. But at the moment you have a supply of unlimited bagged blood. We can cover vein blood at another time."
"Is it the same as drinking from a deer or a cow?"
"Nutritionally, no. The process is similar but animals don't give consent. It is illegal to feed from a human who hasn't consented."
"Wait, but don't vampires use compulsion? Wouldn't that make it illegal?" Amy asked leaning forward in her seat. "With compulsion you can get them to consent to anything. You said it was used to make people forget." She added accusingly.
"That is almost all true, Ms. Green. Except that you have to have consent. The law does not specify the consent can't be gained through compulsion. Many vampires do use compulsion to make the donor forget. Others may use compulsion in other ways."
"What if you can't stop once you start?" I wondered out loud.
"The first feeding teaches the body what it needs. That's why it's important not to let the blood lust control you and not to drink more then your body really needs. The bagged blood is enough for a true born vampire. The probability of a vampire who's first feed was bagged blood loosing control is very low."
I nodded. It eased my worries a little but not completely. Something he said nudged my brain but I wasn't sure what, if anything, I was missing.
I did have a question though. "You mentioned before that animal blood wasn't able to-" I wasn't sure of the word I was looking for.
"Sustain a vampire for very long." Angelov supplied for me.
"What about using it with bagged blood?"
