It's 3AM, and he can't sleep. Every time his eyes close to drift, his heart flutters, bothering him awake, reminding him that something isn't right. Something wrong is bound to happen. Jimin's warm breath on his neck doesn't silence his thoughts. What comes typically as a source of comfort and security only now becomes the source of his concern. Jungkook's head won't stop spinning around the problem. Jimin shifts against him, stirring in his sleep. The younger can't bring himself to miss the opportunity to wake the boy, although he feels guilty for it anyways.
"Hey," Jungkook calls out in a raspy whisper, cupping his palm around Jimin's full cheek. He gently turns the others face up towards his own. "Sorry, Mochi. Wake up."
Confused, held captive by sleeps greedy fists, Jimin groans first as a response. Jungkook's hand leaves his face in time for his own to come to his tired eyes. "Mm, okay." He mutters, slowly taking in a deep breath until it spirals into a yawn.
"We should talk, Jimin." Jungkook decides to speak impatiently, his nerves already stripped from the lack of sleep and the heavy thoughts accumulated inside his head. It feels a bit like torture, the uncertainty, the fear Namjoon's words instilled upon him. The urgency of it all is killing him.
It's definitely unlike Jungkook to wake him up and immediately upon finding clarity from exhaustion clouding his head space, Jimin realizes something isn't alright. Still, he whines with disagreement, against his own better judgement already. "Right now? It's the middle of the night, baby." Sleep is a powerful drug, but he should listen to his instincts more often than he does. Jimin traces the back of his finger along Jungkook's jawline, a notion of affection to apologize for his momentary frustration.
The younger catches the boys smaller hand, removing it from his face and keeping it inside of his own. He's grateful for the care in Jimin's touch. It eases his heart some, calming him in a way that only Jimin's touch can. But, his eyes still close instead of finding the others stare. He can feel it, but it would be too much to meet the concern those eyes are keeping with the uncertainty that's swimming in his own. "I can't sleep." Jungkook says simply, as if his words are to be expected, as if they lack any meaning at all.
Three words sink Jimin's heart, no matter the tone of Jungkook's stale voice. "You can't?" He breaths, meshing his fingers between the others, their joined hands coming to rest on the youngers chest. He can feel the intensity of whatever is coming. It's radiating off of Jungkook, filling his aura with its color. Jimin hates this feeling. "Why didn't you wake me up before?"
"I didn't want to." Jungkook states like a fact, like something he's reading from a book. The desire to conceal the way his heart hurts crumbles like old cobblestone and his chest heaves with the release of held back emotion. Jimin's fingers detach from his own, the smaller hand flattening against the beat of his heart instead. Jungkook sighs, voice unstable when he speaks. "It's not a good conversation to wake up to."
"Obviously it's a necessary one." Jimin's tone is like the key to his mind, portraying the variety of emotions that torment him now. He doesn't know what he's facing, but he knows that it's going to hurt. He wants happiness and clarity and nothing to ever hold them back or keep them from anything but a beautiful life, from fulfilling their beautiful dreams, but something is doing just that. Jungkook's shaky breath takes him away from what he thinks he understands. "Don't cry, my bunny. Hey, it's okay."
It's not. Not really. "I don't know if it is." Jungkook can feel the weight of his own words settling on Jimin's shoulders. The comforting hands that smooth over his chest in soothing circles stop their motion, slowly leaving him free of Jimin's touch completely. He should give the other time to respond. He could catch him up with a softer explanation, but he doesn't have the energy to fight the irrational, or perhaps rational fears that wrack his brain. "Seriously, I tried to figure it out. I keep trying to see things from your perspective, but I can't. Even if I wanted to, sincerely, I can't."
