*Present Time*
"I can't believe it..." Erwin stared down at the wooden table with wide eyes, and I just kept my eyes glued to the far wall.
"I barely survived the fall. If Dimitri hadn't taken the brunt of the landing, neither of us would have survived..." I murmured vacantly. "I used his body as a shield for three days before I managed to tear myself away. Back then, barely anyone stood on top of the walls...so I just used what I had read in books to somehow keep myself alive...""Right then..." Levi stood abruptly and almost slammed his teacup down; on a coaster of course, and started off towards the door.
"Levi, where are you going..?" Erwin stood to follow, and the ravonette spun around and looked at him with sharp, narrowed eyes.
"I'm calling for their arrest. Where else would I be going?""Don't bother..." They both turned to me looking taken aback, but I kept my composure. I didn't want to cry anymore.
"Excuse me..?" Levi backtracked and came to a stop a few feet away, but I simply stared at his leather boots.
"It's been years. There's no point anymore. I just don't want to see them, that's all there is to it..." I traced the handle of my untouched cup with my index finger. "It's actually kind of startling that you would believe me over a captain, anyway..."My reflexes caused me to jerk away when Erwin tried to place his hand on my knee, but he didn't seem offended by it.
"I should probably let you know..." He took a deep breath and released it slowly. "...Captain Clifford (L/N) was one of the many soldiers killed when Wall Maria fell." The way he looked at me so expectantly made me feel uncomfortable, but I hid it away. If I didn't hide everything in that moment, I would have collapsed."Am I supposed to care..?" I did. I was overcome with relief and anguish, but it was all being forced back down into the very depths of my gut. "Let them live out their lives, and let me live out mine...away from here..."
"As I stated before...that decision isn't entirely our call, (Y/N). But, for the time being, you will be under the watch of both Captain Levi here, as well as Keith Shadis, who runs the Training Corps program..." I could tell Erwin was trying to sound comforting, but his choice had left me boiling with anger and bubbling with fear."E..excuse me..? Training Corps..? Under watch..?!" I scooted as far away from both of them as I could as I shook my head violently. "N..no! There's no way I'm going to le-"
"You don't get to decide that, brat. From this moment forth, you're in my command, and you will begin your training to become a member of the Scout Regiment. Somehow, you survived almost a decade outside of the walls, and your knowledge will be a damn good weapon for our cause. All we need is for Premier Zachary to accept our proposal, and you'll be a fully fledged member." Levi leaned in and captured my eyes with his dark, almost demeaning stare. "You better prepare, kiddo...This is going to be one hell of a training course..."-------------------------------------
"C'mon, don't look at me like that, kid...It wasn't my call..." I continued to shoot daggers at Gunther as he accompanied me towards my obvious demise. The cadet mess hall. "There are some good cadets here, so don't worry so much!"
"I'm not...worried..."I'm terrified...
"I just don't like people..." He gave me a pitying look before we stopped in front of the large double doors. My hands fiddled with the strange, leather belt I had around my waist, which resembled more of a skirt than anything.
"Look, I'm not gonna sugar coat this for you...I've been instructed to present you in here. All eyes will be on you, and knowledge of your prior situation is already public. People are likely going to ask you questions...maybe even be a bit hesitant around you...but you need to behave. Just try to get along with them, okay?" Gunther tried to explain, but I was petrified. I didn't want people to be alerted of my existence, but I wasn't being given a choice. Levi had blatantly threatened to throw me in the dungeons if I so much as shifted out of line, and I wasn't prepared to be caged within a cage.
