The shapeshifter comes out of the manhole and runs away. Seconds later, Sam, Dean, and Y/N come out and look around.

"All right, let's split up," Dean says.

"All right, we'll meet around the other side," Y/N says, nodding. They walk away in separate directions. A while later, Sam is waiting on a street corner, and Dean comes up behind him.

"Hey," Sam turns around. "Anything?"

"No. He's gone," Sam says. He looks around for a second. "Wait, where's Y/N?" Sam asks.

"She rang me, saying she's going to look around Zack's house again," Dean answers.

"And you let her go alone?"

"Dude, she's capable of hunting alone." Sam glares at him. "All right, let's get back to the car, then I'll ring her." Sam crosses the street. Dean stops, waiting for a passing car to drive by, then quickly follows after Sam.

"You think he found another way underground?" Sam asks as they walk to the car.

"Yeah, probably. You got the keys?" Sam stops and thinks before turning around.

"Hey, didn't Dad once face a shapeshifter in San Antonio?"

"Oh, that was Austin. It turned out not to be a shapeshifter; it was a thought form. A psychic projection, remember?"

"Oh, right. Here you go." Sam throws Dean the keys and walks away. The shapeshifter opens the trunk and observes all the weapons. He laughs. "Don't move!" Dean turns and sees Sam pointing the gun at him. "What have you done with them?"

"Dude, chill. It's me, all right?"

"No, I don't think so. Where's my brother and sister?"

"She's looking around Zack's house, and you're about to shoot the other one. Sam, calm down."

"You caught those keys with your left. Your shoulder was hurt."

"Yeah, it's better. What do you want me to do, cry?"

"You're not my brother."

"Why don't you pull the trigger, then? Hm? 'Cause you're not sure. Dude, you know me."

"Don't." Dean pauses before hitting Sam twice with a crowbar. Sam falls to the ground.

Sam wakes up in a dingy, dusty room. His neck and hands are bound to a wooden post. The shapeshifter walks over to him and backhands him. Sam groans.

"Where are they? Where's Dean and Y/N?"

"I wouldn't worry about them. I'd worry about you."

"Where are they?"

"You don't really want to know." The shifter chuckles. "I swear, the more I learn about you and your family, the more I think I came from a bad background."

"What do you mean, learn?" The shapeshifter stops. He grabs his head in pain and grimaces. Sam looks at the shifter, confused. The shapeshifter relaxes and looks at Sam.

"He's sure got issues with you. You have to go to college. He and Y/N had to stay home. I mean, I and Y/N had to stay home. With Dad. You don't think we had dreams of our own? But Dad needed us. Where the hell were you?"

"Where are my brother and sister?" The shapeshifter leans in close to Sam.

"Firstly, I am your brother. And your sister—well, you don't need to worry about her. See, deep down, I and she are just jealous. You have friends. You could have a life. Us? I know we're freaks. And sooner or later, everybody's going to leave us." The shifter backs away.
