When Ester was young, he played Pokémon with the kids on the playground. They all choose what type of trainers or Pokémon they were and played by their rules. Ester loved playing as Pikachu and never liked it when someone claimed they were Pikachu before him. That day had been one of the days where a stupid kid named Josh who didn't like Ester chose Pikachu before him.

"But I'm always Pikachu!" Ester yelled.

Josh smirked, "Teacher says we should take turns and you always hog Pikachu."

Ester couldn't accept it and Josh continued to argue with him about it. Finally a Teacher monitor at the playground came over to end the argument.

"Ester it's only fair that someone else can play as Pikachu."

Ester was huffing and puffing in anger and even though he knew the teacher was right, he hated Josh for exploiting the rules.

"But I'm the best Pikachu!" Ester screamed. In the next moment Ester had lighting coursing over him and almost shocked the teacher beside him. After that incident, Ester moved across the country to the East Coast. Ester was strictly told to never lose control and diagnosed with ADHD as a cover for his parents to give him sedatives.

Ester grew up as an emotionless person lacking any energy and just floating along. He somehow had high grades and got a scholarship into Gotham Academy even though his family were rich enough to send him anyways. While freshmen were energetic on the first day of high school, Ester had the energy of a senior waiting for the year to be over. Ester accidently bumped into a dark haired kid on his way to class.

"Watch out! Can't you see where you're going?" a sharp voice called out.

"Sorry man, wasn't looking," Ester replied but with low energy.

Damian thought that Ester was looking down on him with his chill attitude and was prepared to roast him alive. Tim stepped in and held Damian back.

"Sorry for him, he's nervous since it's his first day. We'll leave now."

Ester glanced at Tim and felt a shock go through him for the first time in ages. He saw the Pikachu Keychain on Tim's bag and the nostalgia hit him hard. Tim saw the very slow, but warm smile form on Ester's face and was stunned. Ester went from feeling like a sloth to the energy of a fresh spring breeze. Tim blushed and led Damian away before he stared more at Ester.

But that wasn't the last time they met, which is a lot considering they were in different grades. Damian had a few classes with Ester and found while he seemed to have his head in the clouds, that he had decent grades. Tim watched Ester more and more and felt that the boy always seemed a bit more energetic around him.

One day, Damian was taken aback by how lethargic Ester was. He could barely keep his head up and seemed likely to fall asleep mid sentence. Damian wouldn't admit that he was worried for another human being but dragged Tim during lunch to examine Ester.

"I highly suspect someone drugged him with ulterior motives, based on his reaction and previous experience."

Tim listened to Damian as he examined Ester and his heart itched seeing him like this. Ester might have low energy, but he always looked at Tim with slight smile and a twinkle in his eyes. The Ester right in front of him was staring blankly at an apple in his hands and looked drugged.

"Ester, do you know anyone who would want to hurt you?" Tim asked.

Ester slowly shook his head no, but that seemed to take a lot of energy for him.

"Then is there anyone who would drug you?"

Ester struggled to look into Tim's eyes and Tim saw fear and reluctance in them. Tim felt pain and anger that Ester was feeling this way. At first he ignored his feelings as taking care of a junior student and Damian's friend. But he knew that he was interested in this easy going boy and his gentle smiles.

Tim's eyes darkened, "Ester, tell me who."

"If you are worried about consequences don't be, you have the sons of Wayne on your side," Damian said.

Ester shook his head and slowly got up from his seat and walked away. Tim and Damian let him go, but the issue was far from resolved to them. They told Bruce their suspicions and started researching into this. Tim looked through Ester's records and found nothing out of the ordinary. Ester's family also seemed normal, if a bit not close with each other.

Damian was pulling up surveillance videos of Ester's home to see if anyone wasn't slipping something to Ester's food. He kept on seeing Ester taking a pill before bed and his mother closely supervising him. Damian thought that was odd and looked to see of Ester was under any medications.

"Drake, what is the normal dose for sedatives used pharmaceutically?"

Tim recited a number off the top of his head and turned to look at Damian.

"Why are you asking?"

Damian looked at him grimly, "Because Ester has been taking a dose twice as much as normal and recently is taking triple the dose."

Tim's heart stopped. What if Ester accidentally overdosed on his medication? Who was giving Ester such a high dose? Did Ester know who and why this was happening?

"Let's tell Bruce."

Bruce agreed with them that there was a problem and took a deeper look at Ester's and his family's files.

"It's reported that he started taking the sedatives because of an incident in 2nd grade. The incident is covered up, but it seems to be his parents that encouraged for Ester to be diagnosed and prescribed medication. But sedatives seem a bit excessive as a treatment and he's on a dose that could kill a normal 14 year old."

Tim felt his heart skip a beat in fear and wanted to rescue Ester right that moment. Bruce frowned and looked deeper into the incident reported. A sealed file from his elementary school revealed that Ester had released lighting at school as a result of heightened emotions.

Bruce cursed in his mind but Damian had no qualms cursing Ester's parents out loud. Ester was being drugged with sedatives to prevent him from feeling strong emotions that can trigger his powers.

"This counts as a case right!" Tim exclaimed. "It falls under the meta-human protection act of the Justice League. We can remove him from there and bring him somewhere safe so he can learn to control himself."

Bruce nodded and took the case to be approved by some other Leaguers.

"If this is how he acts when sedated I definitely need to understand his original character," Damian said.

"But what caused them to increase the dose so suddenly?" Tim asked.

Damian flipped through the surveillance videos and found Ester having an argument with his parents. This had happened three days ago.

"Ester, why do we hear that you have gotten close to the Wayne Boys?" his father asked.

Ester who was standing by the stairs hid his blush, "They're fun."

"You aren't supposed to have fun, you aren't supposed to feel anything! What if you lose control again? We have established ourselves in Gotham and will not move. You'll be sent to a correctional camp if you have another outburst," his mother yelled.

Ester seemed to react to her words and a few sparks and lighting bolts escaped his body. His parents backed away quickly and pointed finger at him.

"This is why we will send you away! You can't control it! Either you calm down or we'll have no choice but to send you away!"

Ester stopped releasing energy, only because his fear overtook his excitement. He bowed his head and spoke in a tightly controlled voice.

"I'll stay calm, you can even up my dosage, just don't send me away."

His parents nodded and let him leave to his room. Damian had already left the screen to go beat up a training dummy, but Tim stayed. He went back in the recording and froze the frame on Ester's face before he completely turned away.

He had tears in his eyes.
