My heart. My bones. My mind. All splintered into thousands, millions of tiny pieces. The world had been washed away by cruel waves of reality. My mind had become a maze of terrible thoughts and feelings where it was all I could do to keep myself from breaking completely.
The world was a prison, trapping me behind bars as I watched the seasons change and the winds ruffle the trees. Watching. Waiting.
I waited for those chains to disappear. For my wrists no longer to ache as the full weight of my binds pressed on my shoulders as though I was being crushed with my traitorous thoughts.
So long I'd spent being forced down by those around me. Under control. Powerless. My world had become a warped image of all that it had used to be. I had spent so much time watching my reality crack and shatter.
So long I didn't think I knew what reality was anymore.
