Somebody

"Are we sure it's a woman?" I question.

"Of course not," Alex replies. "It's just an old saying rooted in sexism."

"Shocking."

He slouches into the office chair with an exhausted sigh. "We're gonna have our work cut out for us because after we finish these general interviews, we'll have to dive into everyone's relationship with the members and see if there was ever anything romantic."

"We'll have to examine every person the members have been involved with, too."

"And the members themselves," he adds. Alex must've been able to tell that his comment surprised me a little because he goes on to explain, "It's just to be sure. We don't want a killer-best-friend situation again."

Obviously, he's right; it's just hard to imagine one of them going out of their way to scare or hurt the others. And over what? A breakup? A love triangle? I simply can't picture either of these things driving them to the lengths the perpetrator has gone.

"Tell me something, Wilson: did the members all date each other at one point?" he asks suddenly. "I'm talking a polyamorous relationship."

I'm taken aback once again, and the utter shock on my face is clear as day. I stammer, "W-What? No way, that's...that's crazy." My statement is followed by an unintentional, awkward chuckle. I really need to get better at lying.

Alex stares at me, his brows knitted in perplexity. "How is it crazy? Two of them are literally married to each other. And did you somehow forget that we have a video of Namjoon and Jungkook fucking? Tell me how it's so crazy to assume that, at some point, it was just one giant fuck-fest."

My face scrunches at his word choice. "Please never say 'fuck-fest' again."

"Duly noted," he remarks. "But seriously, Wilson. You worked closely with BTS, and I have reason to believe you know more than you're letting on."

"I don't appreciate you accusing me."

"Not an accusation if it's true," he shrugs.

"Innocent until proven guilty," I huff, vexation apparent in my voice. "But yes, it's true they were in a polyamorous relationship. I don't know if they still are, though."

"Well, you better find out. And soon."

"Me? Why can't you?"

"Because they know you. They'll instinctively trust you more than me," Alex imparts.

"I doubt it," I say. "Haven't you noticed that they kind of hate me?"

"Oh, they don't 'kind of' hate you, they do hate you. Well, except maybe Namjoon. He seems chill."

"Wow, thanks," I grumble.

"I mean, you can't really blame them," he declares. "You did walk out without an explanation."

My jaw tightens. I stand up from the couch and slowly begin inching toward him. Our eyes are now locked on one another, staring into each other's souls yet not saying a word. Eventually, I reach the desk. With my voice barely above a whisper, I'm the first to break the tense silence. "I've hardly spoken about my time here, and I've certainly never talked about the way I left. So, how the hell would you know that?"

Alex adjusts his posture and clears his throat, visibly uncomfortable. "Your file. It was mixed in with the stuff Sejin gave us last night."

"And so you took it upon yourself to hide it from me and read through it."

"No, no. It wasn't like that," he starts to try and defend himself. "I read through every employee's file, which you were at one point. I was just doing my job."
