Did you know that sex hormones affect the sound of your voice?
According to research, the elasticity of the vocal cords change as the hormone levels fluctuate during different phases of the menstrual cycle.
When you are on your period, fluid is retained in your body (including in the voice apparatus), and your voice becomes more gruff hoarse.
After your period, your voice becomes higher over the next week. The nearer you are to ovulation, the more attractive your voice sounds to others.
However, your voice will get back to its former clarity and lightness as the estrogen level rises right after you've had your period and ovulation.
At the beginning of the luteal phase of the cycle, which begins right after ovulation, the estrogen level decreases and that of progesterone rises, so your voice becomes more monotonous.
Since progesterone also helps retain fluid in the body, you may notice that you speak in a lower guttural voice, much like during menstruation.
