Chapter Fifty: One Step At A Time

Rikki's POV:
It was Kael's first doctor's appointment today so the doctor can see his progress and I can feel his frustration. Jude and Carter helped him to the pack hospital much to his annoyance.

"Kael it'll be alright I promise we'll have you walking and running again in no time okay."

He gave me a small smile as he tried to move his legs.

"Thanks baby I..I'm just scared, an Alpha should be strong and have no weakness. I'm no use to anyone if I can't use my legs, I can't protect you if I can't stand baby."

I kissed his lips gently before putting his one hand on my shoulder and the other on my waist.

"Come on we'll take it one step at a time okay hold on to me okay."

He groaned as he got up on his feet. I could feel his pain even more now and I really wish he didn't get attacked by that rogue and hunter.

"It's alright Kael, I know it hurts babe but I'm here okay, it's just like we've been practicing. You just need to focus on something else don't think of the pain okay. If you feel like your going to fall Carter and Jude will catch you okay."

Kael nearly slipped but I caught his hands and got them to wrap around my neck.

"Careful, there we go okay are you ready I'm right here babe."

After a few paces I put his hands in mine so there was more distance between us and he started to walk he was still a little shaky but he was getting there.

"That's very good Alpha if you continue to do this with our Luna everyday your strength should return but it will take some time."

Kael sighed in defeat, I know he's finding this hard.

"Knight, babe it'll be alright your stronger than anyone I've ever met. If it's the last thing I do I'll get you walking and running again Kael."

He gave me a tired smile as if to tell me he was done for the day. I could see he was fighting to keep his eyes open. His body felt heavy against mine.

"I'm tired little wolf, can we go back to bed."

The doctor said he had to try and do more, that his bed rest would need to be cut down bit by bit but I don't see it happening right now.

"I know Knight, of course we can go back to bed Kael."

The boys took Kael back to bed while I spoke to the doctor about his recovery. The doctor said it was slower than he liked but the fact we completed the mate bond meant it would hopefully speed up.

"Thank you, does he have anymore medication I need to know of?"

He handed my another box of strong pain killers, apparently Kael had being taking them since he left hospital although I don't remember ever seeing him taking them but I have seen the box and it appeared full.

"What would happen if he wasn't taking the medication or if he takes too much of it?"

He had better been taking his meds or so help me I'll break his legs.

He will never get better if he doesn't take them and if he's taking too many I'll kick his butt.

"If he doesn't take them he won't get any better and if he takes to many they won't have any effect which could make the pain worse and it'll make him more tired."

I thanked him before leaving, I need to know if he is taking them.

"Carter, Jude it's me, can you do me a favour please. Can you check how many tablets are in Kael's medication box please I..I don't think he's been taking them."

I waited in the kitchen for their reply with Hayley.

"Hey Rikki it's good to hear your finally using the mind link. Carter just checked it's empty but he should still have at least a packet left. Rikki?"

I really don't want to have to babysit him but this..this is important.

"I'm still here Jude. Can you both monitor him for me please, if he wants any tablets tell him he can't have any we are going to monitor him from now on he's not getting better because he's taking more then he needs."

They both agreed before I shut off the link.

"Are you alright Rikki sweetie you seem stressed out is everything okay with Kael?"

I sighed as she placed a hot chocolate in front of me.

"It's Kael, he's been over taking his medication so he hasn't been getting better, the doctor said that it won't be relieving pain but increasing it and it's what's making him so tired. I think he just wants to get better as soon as possible and he thought taking more meds would help but it's not. I don't want to baby him Hayley I just want him to get better and be safe."

She rubbed my hands, sometimes I keep forgetting she was the Luna of the pack several months ago.

"He's his father's son I'm afraid Rikki, Jackson was terrible at his age. I'm afraid that's our Moon men but what I find a good wack with a rolled newspaper does the trick or a book which ever is to hand."

I had a good chat with Hayley it was nice to have someone to talk to especially someone with Luna experience.

"Don't worry sweetie, everything will work itself out. Now speaking of those Moon men or should I say boys I have to go roll my magazine up those boys; and Jackson still wants more children."

I couldn't help but laugh as she left with a rolled up magazine I can't imagine what the twins have done but goddess I love that woman.

I finished my drink and put it in the sink before making two hot chocolates for Carter and Jude. I carried them upstairs to Kael and mine's room to find Kael asleep and the boys asleep curled up on the love couch.

"Cart, Jude wake up. I brought you something to drink."

Carter shifted before he woke up, he gave me a small smile and reached out for his drink without waking Jude.

"Thanks Rikki, you may want to drink that yourself I don't think he's going to wake up anytime soon I'm afraid he didn't sleep well last night I told him to go to bed but he likes to help we see you and Kael as family not just are Alpha and Luna."

I couldn't help but smile I swear the men in this pack have such a way with words I really need to find out if it was Hayley or Jackson who taught them.

"I see you both as my family too. Carter can I ask you a question."

Kael and Jude shifted in their sleep so I put a blanket over them both before returning to sit opposite Carter and Jude.

"Of course you can Rikki, thanks. Kael's been fine by the way."

I glanced over at Kael for a second seeing his body rising and falling made me feel better, goddess I love him.

"Carter I was talking with Hayley earlier about my duties as Luna and well I was wondering if you and Jude would consider being my Beta and Gamma."
