Steve POV
Hwoarang was laughing like an idiot for no reason and the lift doors just opened. There were lots of people waiting for the lift and they were staring at our redhead friend here.
He finally realised and turned red. He straightened his tie and cleared his throat to look more professional. He looked kinda embarrassed, but kept cool. He just walked out of the lift like a businessman. I walked out too and the ones that were waiting stared after Hwoarang as if he was crazy. Well, serve him right.
We entered the bathroom and locked the door after making sure that there were no one else in there. Hwoarang sat on one of the sinks and sighed.
"Well that's what you get for laughing like an idiot," I said. "Anyway, your hair... it's sticking out again but not the same place."
Hwoarang groaned and jumped off the sink and laid his briefcase on it. He opened it and took out the hair gel that dad sent us. He started fixing his his hair up while looking at his reflection.
I fixed myself up too. I actually look good in this getup. I looked over at Hwoarang and he put the hair gel away in his briefcase and started making funny faces at himself in the mirror.
"People would think you came here to just fool around," I said in disgust. "Sometimes I wonder, how are you even older than me?"
"Well I'm not that much older than you," said Hwoarang, closing the briefcase. "I'm only a month older than you!"
"Yeah but you're acting like a kid..." I said. "Come on, let's get our mission started."
Just then someone knocked on the bathroom door.
"Cleaning in progress!" Hwoarang shouted. "Come back later!"
We heard a loud groan followed by someone walking away.
"Must've been an emergency," Hwoarang said with a shrug. "Well too bad. Anyway, I need to go."
He entered one of the stalls and came out a few minutes later. I'm just trying to wait there, as patiently as I can.
"I look okay right?" Hwoarang said, examining himself in the mirror. "Huh Steve? Steve?"
"Can you make it quick?" I said, annoyed. "I think by the time you're done, it would already be closing time. All my effort at the lobby would be wasted!"
"Whoa chill, dude," Hwoarang said. "I'm done."
"Finally, come on," I said. "We need to find Eddy's office. Wonder where that is..."
We casually left the bathroom and tried searching for Eddy's office. This place was a total maze!
"Why isn't there a GPS system indoors?" Hwoarang said with a groan. "Like, if we get lost outside, there's GPS, but if we get lost inside?"
"I know right," I said. "Do you think there'd be a directory here? There was on even in Dragunov's military base in Yokohama."
"Drags actually put up a military base here, in Japan?" Hwoarang asked in surprise. "And he has a directory? That guy is better than I thought. Usually his face is always just like this."
Hwoarang started imitating Draguov's usual expression. I couldn't help laughing at him.
"Yeah and apparently people has caught him singing in his free time," I said. "Weird right?"
"I can never imagine that face singing," said Hwoarang. "Can you? I mean, I don't think he can even speak. Can he?"
"Yes he can," I said. "He can talk as clearly as any of us. He just... doesn't."
"Why are all military people so serious?" Hwoarang asked. "Like, they hardly even smile."
"Everyone besides you," I said. "No one can even tell that you were the leader of resistance and that you've achieved Sergeant rank in military!"
"Hey what can I say," Hwoarang said with a shrug. "Don't judge a book by its cover? More like don't judge a person by their personality."
We continued walking around the hallways and saw a door with the initials E.G. on it. This must be it. There was even the words CEO printed on it. This is it!
"Finally," Hwoarang said and started pushing the door open. "Lets get this done with."
Does this guy really think that it's a good idea to just barge in when we're supposed to act as proper businessmen? I stopped him and shook my head.
"Not a good idea to barge in," I said. "We should knock first."
Hwoarang rolled his eyes and knocked on the door.
"Are you happy now?" Hwoarang asked, annoyed. "You're gonna do the talking again, right?"
I was gonna say no, but I had a better idea.
"Yeah I will," I said. "All ya gotta do is watch me."
Eddy allowed us to enter and we went in. He stood up and looked as us questioningly.
"Do I know you two?" Eddy asked. "You look familiar."
"Pardon?" I said, trying to sound American again. "No, Mr Gordo, I don't think I've seen you before, at least not in real life."
"Ah I see," said Eddy. "Well have a seat, Mr...?"
"Earwicker," I said. "Dean Earwicker. This is my friend, Park Doo... Jin!"
"Nice to meet you, Mr Earwicker and Mr Park," Eddy said. "What do you want to see me for? The receptionist told me that you were here for some business."
"Ah that's what Mr Park would like to talk to you about," I said, eyeing Hwoarang who looked surprised. "Mr Gordo, would you mind if I look around your office for a bit? It looks a little interesting."
"Sure, be my guest," said Eddy and then turned to Hwoarang. "Mr Park? What would you like to see me for?"
"I um uh..." Hwoarang began. He cleared his throat and took a deep breath. "We are here for some business. We would like to... uh... buy some of your beverages for our company."
I stood up and started walking around his office to see if there's anything that might give us a clue. Hwoarang was kinda talking nonsense so I just decided to get a word in every now and then.
There was a family portrait of young Eddy with his parents. Below it, the words 'my beloved family' was written with gold letters. There were also news paper clippings talking about their death and their obituary.
I went to the other side where there was a portrait of Eddy with Christie and her grandfather. There were photos of them training together.
Wait... if Eddy's father was the previous CEO of this company, then his stuff may be here too. But this isn't the HQ. The HQ is all the way in Brazil.
"And what is the name of this company of yours?" Eddy asked. "I don't think you've mentioned it?"
"Yeah it's La Bebida," I added. "The owner's is Spanish thus, the name."
"Ah I see," said Eddy. "So he's a Spaniard?"
Hwoarang continued answering and tried to distract Eddy as much as he can. I continued to look around. There was a small diary in one of the shelf. There was a name inscribed on the cover... Luiz Gordo...Eddy's father! Perfect. I'm just gonna take that. I hope Eddy won't miss it.
I don't think he will because the book was covered in dust. I looked around a bit more and found a photo of Eddy and his father on the shelf. It looked like it was during a birthday celebration. I picked it up and felt some paper at the back of it and saw that a newspaper clipping about some drug trade was clipped to the back with some paper clips stuck to the back of it.
Into my pocket it goes. I casually went to Hwoarang and tapped his shoulder. He understood me and began to end the conversation.
"Our boss would come to see you, Mr Gordo," said Hwoarang. "Thank you for your time."
"I appreciate your visit," said Eddy. "Thank you, Mr Park and Mr Earwicker. I will look forward to seeing your boss."
We nodded and left the office. We practically ran down the hallway and into the lift. There were many people in the lift so we just kept quiet.
We ran to the car and started laughing at what we just did.
