The next day, Nicole was upstairs with K.J. reading book to him. Today, she had a day off.
KJ got up started walking to his toys.
"KJ!", Nicole yelled. "Come back here"
"Boring", he said.
"How about another book then?", Nicole asked.
"No, no, no!", KJ said.
Nicole sighed. "Well...I'll read you something tonight", Nicole said.
Suddenly, Nicole heard somebody let out a laugh.
Nicole quickly turned around and saw Jakobi.
He was standing at the doorway eating a sandwich.
"Do you have to scare my half to death?", Nicole asked as she got up.
"You can't just let little dude run over you like that", Jakobi said.
Nicole folded her arms. "Like you would know how to raise a kid", Nicole said.
Jakobi got quiet.
"We've been doing stuff all morning so he's probably tired of learning", Nicole said. "Besides why are you here eating dad's groceries?"
"I was hungry?", Jakobi asked. "And I got one of dad's shirts. The one I had on went through it"
Jakobi put his shirt on the bed. It had his phone and wallet wrapped in it.
"You don't have a house? With food?", Nicole asked.
Jakobi ignored her question. "You talk to mama?", Jakobi asked.
"If you wanna know if she's mad at you for walking out yesterday? Yes. Where did you even go", Nicole asked.
"None of your business", Jakobi said.
"And I heard you stole money from dad", Nicole said. "That's crazy. Your own father?"
"I'm going to get his money back. I just- I needed it", Jakobi said.
Nicole shook her head.
Jakobi watched KJ as he played.
"He's 3 right?", Jakobi asked.
"He just turned 4", Nicole said.
Jakobi nods. "How was it when he was first born? Like were you scared?", Jakobi asked.
"Terrified", Nicole said.
"When did you stop feeling like that?", Jakobi asked.
"I never did", Nicole said. "Everyday it's something new that's going on...some threat... you wanna know why I let Elijah do what he did to me?"
"Why?", Jakobi asked.
"Because...I know guys like that because I used to deal with them. If you do something against them, something they don't want you to do...they hurt you in ways the most...if he found out about KJ then he probably would've hurt him", Nicole said.
KJ got up and walked to Jakobi.
"I got a new car", KJ said.
"That's nice", Jakobi said. "The coolest car I've seen"
KJ smiled as he went back to play.
"KJ, that's your uncle Jakobi", Nicole said.
KJ looked at him again.
