🧸✨ some things in life aren't meant to work out. Keep going, everything will work itself out how it's supposed to

Third person

It was obvious to everyone, even the couple themselves. Jack and Corbyn were falling out of love. They argued over stupid things, they rarely talked to each other, and when they did it always ended in an argument, they didn't even sleep in the same bed anymore as Corbyn started sleeping in the guest room.

Jack didn't want to accept reality, he didn't want to lose his high school sweetheart that he's been with for over 10 years and married to for just over 6. He wasn't ready to lose his other half, his whole world. He didn't want to let go, not yet. Every night, Jack sat on the couch waiting for Corbyn to arrive home from work. He would pretend not to care when Corbyn actually got home, but on the inside he was just happy that the boy got home safe. After a few minutes he would finally go upstairs to the bedroom, where Corbyn was no longer there to greet him in bed. He would strip down to his boxers and change into basketball shorts then lay under the covers, wishing he had tried to make things right that day. He wished everyday that he had tried to get Corbyn back, to make things the way they used to be. But he was scared of losing Corbyn forever.

Jack's bottom lip trembled as he tried to hold in his sobs. The walls were extremely thin and the guest room was right next to the bedroom. He usually cried when Corbyn was asleep, but it was only 7:30 so Corbyn would definitely still be awake.

Jack quickly shoved a hand over his mouth as he let out a loud sob. He couldn't control it. Sob after sob left his mouth and the pillow got soaked with his salty tears.

Jack heard the door open, but he didn't look over. The bed dipped on the opposite side, Corbyn's side. A gentle hand was placed on Jack's back and gently rubbed.

"Jack? Are you okay?" Corbyn asked quietly. He knew he was the reason they fell apart, he stopped talking to Jack after stressful days at work, he started stupid arguments, and he made Jack feel hopeless. He didn't mean to, he just seems to do that to people he loves.

"I'm fine bean, go back to bed," Jack sniffled. Corbyn frowned. Jack still called him bean, even after everything he put him through.

"I'm not doing that, I'm staying until you feel better," Corbyn said. Jack wiped his eyes then sat up to face Corbyn.

"In reality, I'll never be okay. We haven't been talking for months, you don't sleep with me anymore, we never even talk to each other without arguing! I've been crying myself to sleep every night just praying that things would go back to normal, but they never have, and they never will! I just want you back, but we both know that it will never happen," Jack sobbed.

"Oh Jack, come here." Corbyn opened his arms and Jack happily fell into them. Corbyn held Jack close and rubbed his back. "I'm sorry that I caused all of this. I'm so sorry I made us fall like this and ruin everything. I'm sorry. I love you Jack."

"Don't say things you don't mean. We both know you don't Corbyn so don't lie," Jack cried as he pulled away from the hug. Corbyn stayed silent. "We don't work Corbyn, we never will work. This is how it's supposed to be. We're not meant to be together and we need to accept reality."

Corbyn nodded as he swallowed the lump in his throat. His eyes had tears in them as he smiled sadly.

"Cuddles? Just for the night?" Corbyn asked, his voice broken sounding. Jack nodded and smiled small. Corbyn laid down then patted his chest, allowing for Jack to lay on him. Corbyn held Jack close. Both boys loved the feeling of being together again, but they both knew in the back of their heads that this would be the last night that they do this.
