83. DATE NIGHT

"PAYTON, DON'T YOU DARE!" Elijah scolds from his spot in the kitchen, watching as his daughter attempts to run towards him with a giggle.

He'd spoken to her multiple times about coming into the kitchen while he's cooking but she usually has no care for that.

She loves her dad too much to stay away from him.

"But, daddy, I wanna give you a hug!" She exclaims. He runs her eyes over his wife's mini-her — bantu knits on top of her head and a blue romper on. She'd picked the outfit a week in advance.

He sighs, "Daddy'll give you a hug when he's finished making breakfast, okay? Where's mommy? Maybe she can give you a hug."

"She's doing Kaylan's hair." The toddler shrugs and runs into the living room where Jordan was already watching TV. "Watcha watching?" She asks her older brother.

"Mickey Mouse." Almost six year old Jordan puts the remote in the middle of the couch and watches the program with his sister who was swinging her legs off the edge and Oreo who's curled into him.

As Elijah dishes out breakfast for his family, he hears his wife's warning tone from the top of the steps, "Kay, don't slide down the stairs or you're going to mess up your clothes!"

At the sound of his other daughter sliding down the steps, Elijah already knows that she did exactly what Aliyah told her not to do. When Kaylan turns the corner to greet her dad, she gasps, making him whip his head around to look at her.

"What happened, sweetheart?" Elijah questions his daughter as he hears Lee start to come downstairs. "Breakfast, y'all!"

"I did it!" She squeals excitedly at the fact that she didn't mess up the clothes it took her thirty minutes to put on. Her hairstyle matches her sister's yet her romper is a pale yellow.

Aliyah sighs as she finally makes her way downstairs, dressed in a pair of sweatpants and Eli's hoodie. Her fresh braids rest in a mop on top of her head and the oil stains over her clothing shows how much turmoil she went through to get the girls' hair done.

"Good morning, baby." She approaches him and kisses his lips. "Happy anniversary."

He smiles, "Happy anniversary."

"Ew!" The couple is interrupted by Jordan walking into the kitchen, his sisters and Oreo following behind him, "Mommy and daddy are kissing."

Following in their brother's footsteps, the twins contort their faces into one of disgust and say, simultaneously, "Ew!"

Aliyah chuckles and holds on to her husband's waist before kissing him yet again. The children groan before going to sit around the table so they can eat breakfast — and get away from their lovey-dovey parents.

"You guys excited to stay with grandma this weekend?" Aliyah questions as she moves to the fridge to grab a jug of orange juice. Elijah begins to wipe off the counter when she pours some out for her kids.

"Yes, mommy," Jordan starts, "Grandma K said that we can go to Carowinds and ride the bumper cars with her and Grandpa." He refers to Kiara's husband of two years.

"Ooh, that's fun." Aliyah coos and stands behind him to kiss the top of his head, "Make sure you don't cause any trouble like last time you went with her 'cause she told me that you kicked somebody in the shin when they cut in front of you. You don't do that around us so don't do it with her, okay?"

"Okay." He promises.

"Alright." Aliyah kisses his forehead again, "Make sure you take care of your sisters too. Keep them in your sight at all time."

Elijah nods, "No fighting either, no talking to strangers, stay with grandma at all times, okay?"

"Okay!" The twins exclaim and Jordan nods. Finally, the parents sit around the table and take their children's hands into their own.

"Who wants to pray?"

"I will!" JJ raises his hand before putting it back into Elijah's, "For health and strength and daily food, we praise thy name, O Lord. Amen."

"Amen."

"THEY'RE GONE

"THEY'RE GONE." ALIYAH flops onto the couch where Elijah was already laying down. Kiara came by just five minutes ago to pick up her grandkids and left with a — 'I won't call unless it's an emergency' — which made Aliyah laugh because she only says that to let the parents of three know that they're free to get it on without distractions. Especially since it's their wedding anniversary.

That's the case everytime the babies go over to her house. Kiara also prefers to spend time with them without distractions and seeing as she also raised two kids, what's taking care of three more?

Elijah sighs as Aliyah curls into his arms, "Is it bad that I miss them already?" The house is quiet, save for Oreo who's snoring away in his doggy bed despite it being the middle of the day.

Lee looks up to her husband with a small smile, "The house is a lil' too quiet, ain't it?"

"You know what that means..." Elijah's hand trails down to Aliyah's ass before squeezing it and pulling her to kiss him, "Anniversary date night."

This makes Aliyah laugh because, frankly, she wasn't expecting him to go that route. "You're so annoying." She rolls her eyes, playfully.

Elijah chuckles and flips her onto her back before hovering over her and pressing his lips to hers, "We still have time to get ready though — I'm sure we can pass the time with other things."
