Lydia stared ahead at her reflection in the mirror, thinking back to the last time she was in this position. Attending funerals was never easy, especially not for her since everyone she lost was family and incredibly close to her. This time it was hard, but for a different reason. She was attending a funeral and didn't even miss the person who it was for. She hated him and he was possibly dead because someone didn't like what he did to her. Worst of all, Lydia had to give a stupid speech and had no clue what to say. She was still figuring it out which wasn't good considering Caroline was waiting downstairs for her so that they could go together but that on its own made Lydia a bit upset. Because it wasn't Kol going with her.

Lydia sat down at the edge of Kol's bed, pulling at the comforter with her fingers as she waited for Kol to emerge from the shower. She was hoping that the day would end on a relaxing note, but of course it didn't. The day went well. She caught up with Rae and spent the evening with Kol, even Jace's death didn't threaten her good day. But Lydia should've known something would follow and it did. A phone call from Jace's mother. Apparently Jace never told his parents that they broke up and now she was being asked to give a heartfelt speech on Jace. Lydia had no idea how to do that or if she even should. She just told Jace's mother that she had to think about it and hung up. Lydia assumed she thought Lydia was just overwhelmed by grief.

When the door from the en-suite creaked open, Lydia's head instantly snapped in its direction, watching as Kol emerged, wearing a pair of sweatpants and holding a small towel which he was running through his hair. He looked rather content, but that changed when he saw Lydia's teary eyes.

"Lydia, what is it?" Kol didn't hesitate to rush towards her, thinking that something was wrong but he was quick to realize that she seemed more frustrated than anything.

"Jace's mother wants me to give a stupid speech at his stupid funeral," Lydia suddenly spat, crossing her arms in front of her chest."I guess he never told her we broke up but I didn't even know she knew we were dating. I met her once and he called me a friend from school."

"Does she know how he treated you?" Kol raised his eyebrows.

Lydia shook her head slowly. Jace was pretty good at hiding his behaviour in public and if Jace's mother did know, even if she didn't do anything about it she probably wouldn't be inviting Lydia."No I don't think so. But what do I even say? I have nothing good to say about him."

"You do not have to worry about that," Kol shook her head, hoping that she would relax a bit since it wasn't going to happen."You are not actually going along with it, are you?"

"I don't know," Lydia admitted with a small sigh."It's just that she was crying and seemed so upset and. . . I don't know. Maybe I could do it just for her."
