109 - Jonah Marais ( Why Don't We )

Here's how it all started, it started with a letter. And now, I'm texting him every day and we're writing each other letters back and forth. It was a joke, that's why I answered him back. And that's how it all started, of course we had some ground rules. 

1. Fake names 

2. Share as much information as you want to share 

3. Be honest 

4. Don't meet in public (for some reason, this was the most important rule for him)

5. Don't catch feelings for the other 

We have other ones, but those are the ones that are like written down. I have them on my pin wall, which is kinda funny. 

I remember when it first happened, where he asked for my number. 

I had just told him, that in a few days that I would be doing an 'interview' for a job. Which to him I put interview, but in real life it was an audition. I didn't really want to tell him I was a YouTuber/musician. I don't know why but I didn't.

My mouth immediately dropped, it was becoming a more serious thing. So, after I got the audition, which I was playing an agent for one of my friends. This was during Covid, so it was going to be over zoom. It was hilarious I'm not gonna lie, I texted him. 

River! I got it! I actually got it! I can not start shaking right now! It starts tomorrow, and I'm freaking out! 

Congrats! I told you, you could do it! 

That's what started it all, the texting every day pretty much. I hated to admit it, but I was falling for him. I was starting to like a guy I have never seen before. It's weird when you say it out loud, but I am. 

I'm hanging out with Adelia today, she's been my best friend since I moved here to LA. I'm originally from Sandusky, Ohio. So I grew up by the water and stuff like that, it always was a dream of mine to become a musician. And along the way I fell in love with YouTube. 

Mainly on YouTube I prompt my music, do vlogs, behind the scenes, stuff like that. I sometimes do tea time and mukbangs, depending on my mood. Back to my best friend, I moved here in November of 2017 and that's when everything started getting pieced together. 

She might be vlogging so we'll see. " Hello, hello beautiful human! " I chuckle as she walks through the door, yes she has a key to my place. I have one to hers' as well. " Now what is the plan for today? " She asks, I just shrug to her. 

" I need to do some Christmas shopping, so maybe that. Are you down? " I ask her, which she just nods towards me. 

" So how's lover boy? " She asks, which causes me to shake my head. 

" He's not lover boy, but he's doing good. I think he's doing work today maybe, I'm not sure. I'm still trying to figure out what his job actually is, " I tell her, which causes her to nod towards me as I continue to speak about him. 

" Isn't that against the rules? " She asks, I nod my head towards her. " You really like this guy, " she states. I nod towards her again. " Why don't you just tell him you want to break the rules? Be honest with him, tell him who you really are, " she adds. 

" What if he doesn't like me? What if he then only wants me because I'm a YouTuber and musician? " I ask, she sighs lightly sitting down next to me. 

" That's always something that can happen, but if you really like him. You should tell him, " she comments, I give her a slight nod. 

We went on to shop for a few hours, and now we're driving to pick up Lera from somewhere. When we got there we just stood out front. " Come inside, I need to go and get a few things real fast, " she tells us, we walk inside. It's a recording studio, that's nice. 

Jonah's P.O.V. 

" Hey Prince Charming, your princess just walked in the door, " Zach comments, I immediately pick up my head. And there she stands, whoa. I found out who she was a few months back, I never had the guts to tell her. But I've never seen her in person, she's even more gorgeous in person. 

" Why is she here? " I ask him, heavily confused. 

" Probably Adelia and her are picking up Lera, " Jack comments, I nod towards him. " Go talk to her dude, or at least admit to her that you know who she truly is. It would make all of this 'I want to take her on a date' talk be more true, " he adds. 

" I can't do that, she doesn't know I know, " I comment. 

Before any of them could respond a knock is placed on the door, and we all turn our heads to Lera, Adelia, and her standing there. " Wanted to say bye before we left, and guys this is Y/n, " Lera comments, she waves shyly and we all wave towards her. " If you ever need a girl to sing a song with you, she's your gal, " she adds. 

" Shut up Lera, it was nice meeting you all, " she comments. I watched as her wallet fell, and none of the girls seemed to notice. So I got up, grabbed a hold of it and walked after them. 

" Y/n! " I holler, she turns around and I hold up her wallet. She walks towards me with a concerned smile. 

" Thank you so much, " she tells me, I give her a nod. 

" I'm Jonah by the way, " I comment, she smiles lightly. 

" Y/n, as you already know, " she chuckles. Which only causes me to slightly chuckle. " I'll see you around Jonah, " she adds. I nod towards her and she begins to walk away. 

Here's to being brave and honest. I get my phone out and call her, she looks at her phone and immediately stops. She answers it. " River, why are you calling me? " She asks heavily confused, which makes sense. We don't call each other for a reason. 

" Because I know who you actually are, and I'm tired of hiding that from you, " I confess, she slowly turns around to me. " I'm sorry, I kinda broke the rules, " I add. " I broke the last one, especially, " I then say. 

" I don't care, " she chuckles, she walks towards me grabbing a hold of me and kisses me. Which I quickly kiss her back. 

After I back away, and just hug her. " You have no idea how long I've been wanting to do that, " I whisper. 

" I could say the same thing, " she comments back to me, which makes me smile. 

I asked her out the next day, because we saw each other. And ever since then, everything has fallen into place. And to think, it all started because I sent a letter to the wrong house.
