Several hours of watching news reports later, the Council calls.

"Where are the Avengers?"

"I'm not currently tracking their whereabouts," I smirk. "I'd say they've earned a leave of absence."

"And the Tesseract?"

"The Tesseract is where it belongs. Out of our reach."

"That's not your call."

"I didn't make it. I just didn't argue with the god that did."

"So, you let him take it, and the war criminal, Loki, who should be answering for his crimes."

"Oh, I think he will be."

"I don't think you understand what you've started, letting the Avengers loose on this world. They're dangerous."

"We surely are, and the whole world knows it. Every world knows it."

"Was that the point of all this? A statement?"

"A promise," I say and the call ends.

"Ma'am, how does it work now?" Hill asks as she and Fury walk up to me.

"Yeah, they've gone their separate ways. Some, pretty extremely far. If we get into a situation like this again, what happens then?"

"They'll come back."

"Are you really sure about that?" Maria counters.

"I am."

"Why?" Nick asks.

"Because we'll need them to." They walk away, and I teleport to Portland for a week or two to see Phil before going to the Tower to help Tony with renovations for the Avengers.
