Chapter 1: HYDRA Again

Three Years Later

I'm at one of my regular check-ins with Tony when we get a lead on another Hydra base. We attack in hopes of finding Loki's scepter. Tony hits a forcefield surrounding the building.

"Shit!"

"Language!"

"Oh, please, Stevie, you've said worse."

"I can confirm that," Nat says.

"Jarvis, what's the view from upstairs?"

The central building is protected by some kind of energy shield. Strucker's technology is well beyond any other Hydra base we've taken.

"Loki's scepter must be here. Strucker couldn't mount this defense without it. At long last."

"'At long last' is lasting a little long, boys."

"Yeah, I think we lost the element of surprise."

"Wait a second. No one else is gonna deal with the fact that Cap just said 'Language'?"

"I already acknowledged it, babe."

"I know. Just slipped out."

"Clint!" I run over to him as I see him get knocked over.

"We have an enhanced in the field."

"Clint's hit!" I begin healing him before I send an energy surge to destroy the bunker. I finally decide to wrap his wound and teleport him to the quinjet before returning to the battle.

"Tony, we really need to get inside!"

"I'm closing in."

"Yeah, too late," I say whilst short-circuiting the field.

"Gen, why not sooner?"

"I was helping Clint. I'll go get Bruce."

"Yeah, fine. Drawbridge is down, people."

"The Enhanced?"

"He's a blur. All the new players we've faced, I've never seen this. In fact, I still haven't."

"The sooner we're gone, the better. You and Man of Iron secure the scepter."

"Copy that."

"Nat! You with Barton?"

"Yes, ma'am."

"Good. Boys, it looks like they're lining up."

"Well, sis, they're excited."

Thor hits Steve's shield with Mjolnir.

"Find the scepter."

"And for gosh sake, watch your language!"

"That's not going away anytime soon."

"You'd better believe it, baby!"

I finally get to Bruce and calm his mind. We head back to the jet, and everyone else isn't too far behind. Tony looks unsettled. I listen to his thoughts before entering his mind.

Tony, listen to me.

Gen, I'm sorry. I need to do this.

I know. I'll help you.

Thanks.

I exit his mind after ridding him of the hell she put in there.

"I have to go. I'll be around later."
