Olivia's povThis morning, Ellen had asked me and less to meet up with her for a coffee somewhere.
She said she had a surprise for us, and we figured that we'd tell her about the pregnancy.
I hadn't seen Ellen for the past couple of months.
We were constantly messaging each other, but due to football, we never had time to meet up.
Of course, Ellen had retired but she was still active in the footballing business, so she was always busy too.
————————
We had agreed to meeting up at a small cafe in central Manchester.
"I'll drive, baby." I offer as I grab the car keys.
"No. I'm driving." Less states and takes them off of me.
"Less, just because I'm pregnant doesn't mean I can't drive. Now, please, can I drive?"
"Fine." Less sighs in defeat
"Thank you." I take the keys back from her and kiss her cheek. "Can I drive your car?" I ask, knowing the answer already, but I thought I'd just try and get lucky.
"Don't push it, baby. You already know the answer."
————————
"El!" I go and hug Ellen. After a long hug, she hugs alessia and we sit down at the table.
"Kid, how've you both been?"
"We've been good. Travelled a lot for matches over the past couple of months. How are you?" I ask
"I'm good. Travelling a lot too."
We continue talking and the conversation never seems to die down.
We eventually order our drinks.
Of course, being pregnant meant that I couldn't have my normal coffee order.
I know you're allowed coffee in proportions but less, being her protective self, has essentially banned me from coffee.
"One tea, please." Ellen asks, and I give her a weird look.
"Another tea for me, and a cappuccino for her, please." I order mine and less' drinks and Ellen returns a weird look but at me. "Didn't go for your usual coffee then?"
"I could say the same thing to you." Ellen points out
"Why didn't you order your coffee?" Less questions her
"Well, I would have it, but I don't think this little one would enjoy it." Ellen tightens her baggy shirt to reveal a baby bump.
"El? You're pregnant?" I ask, speechless.
"Yeah. I'm due in April."
"Congratulations, Ellen." Less tells her and we hug her.
"Thanks, kids."
Less smiles, knowingly at me.
"Anyway, I wanna know why you aren't having your coffee?"
"Well, I don't think these little ones would enjoy it." I smile, repeating Ellen's actions by showing my tiny bump, but you could still tell.
"No way." Ellen's mouth opens. "Congratulations, liv, less. I can't believe this."
"Who knew we'd be pregnant at the same time?" I joke
"And you said little ones, are you having twins?" Ellen questions
"We are. Two babies." Less confirms and smiles at me.
"Congrats, kids. You two have the best love story, you know?" Ellen points out. "Childhood sweethearts, both play professional football, get married, have children. I'm so happy for you both."
"Thank you, el."
"Who else have you told?"
"We're telling the team next week at camp, and then we're telling our families when we get back. We don't know when we'll reveal it to the media though. Soon though, I mean I'm only nine weeks and I'm already showing."
We stay for another hour, just talking about our pregnancies, and mine and lessi's ivf journey.
Technically, anything and everything.
It started getting late in the afternoon, and it was getting dark, so we decided to leave.
We say goodbye to Ellen and we go our separate ways to our cars.
"I did not expect that." I tell less on the way back.
"Me neither, baby."
"I wonder how the team are gonna react when they find out." I share our loud
"We'll soon see, we're telling them at camp, aren't we?"
"Yeah, we will." I agree and put my hand on her thigh, rubbing it gently.
————————
It had been a weeks since we met up with Ellen and I was now laying on the sofa whilst less is cooking dinner.
I was scrolling on instagram before G had started messaging me.
I clicked on her message and she had told me to look at the bbc sport instagram page.
I didn't even bother responding to her and immediately went onto instagram and onto the bbc sport page.
I clicked on their most recent post and it was the announcement of their bbc sport personality of the year nominations.
To my surprise, the video started playing of all the nominees and my name flashed up on the video.
"Baby?" I shout
"Yeah, what's wrong?" Less asks and walks through into the living room.
"I've been nominated for bbc sports personality of the year." I tell her, still surprised.
"My love, that's amazing!" Less pulls me up from where I was sat and hugs me. "Well done, baby."
"I'm not gonna win it though. Look who I'm up against. Ben stokes, Ronnie O'Sullivan, Jessica Gadirova, and other amazing athletes. I'm not gonna—"
"Yes you are, baby. You are gonna win it." Less cuts me off and presses a gently kiss to my lips.
"Thank y — less, I smell burning." I cut myself off as I look at her worriedly.
"Oh, shit!" Less runs through to the kitchen. "It's fine, it's fine. The dinners not burnt."
"Who would've thought you were the Italian, huh?" I tease her and jump up to sit on the counter top, watching her finish off the dinner.
