|Chapter 3|

Ben stared at the clock in worry, his niece should have been back by now and he was starting to get worried. He hoped that nothing bad had happened and regretted letting her go out in this downpour alone.

He couldn't stop pacing in the entrance hall, the feeling of worry overwhelming him as he tried to call her again but was receiving no answer and it made him sigh in frustration.

He couldn't help but glance over at his keys hanging on the hanger and began reaching for them, deciding that he would go look for her. But before he could even grab them the door opened, revealing Imogen who walked in while holding the food.

The doctor let the relief he felt quickly disappear as the feeling of annoyance crept up. "Where have you been, Imogen? I've been so worried that something happened when you didn't come back and you weren't answering your phone."

Imogen gave him an apologetic look. "I'm sorry, Uncle Ben but there was this dog that came out of nowhere and I accidentally hit it which is why I took so long. I had to take her to the animal clinic to make sure she was taken care of." She said, letting out a breath although she couldn't stop the smile that tugged at her lips when she thought of her upcoming date with Scott.

He gave her concerned look. "Well I'm just glad that you're okay. Is the dog okay?" He paused, taking in the expression on her face and raised a brow. "Although for someone who hit a dog you have a weird smile on your face."

"Oh. She's gonna be fine. Scott wrapped her leg." She muttered, ignoring the smile part and she walked into the kitchen with her Uncle following behind her as she took out the food.

"And who is Scott?" He asked, a tinge of exasperation in his tone. He took out a couple of plates and cups before setting them on the countertop.

She pursed her lips as she fiddled with her bracelet while avoiding eye contact. "Scott works at the animal clinic and is in my grade. He also asked me to go to a party with him after the lacrosse scrimmage on Friday." Her voice lowering at the end.

He made a face and cleared his throat. "I'm sorry what was that?"

Imogen sighed, giving her uncle a look

Imogen sighed, giving her uncle a look. "You heard me. He asked me on date and I was wondering if you would be okay with me going?" She paused and gave him a puppy eyed look. "Please? Can I go?"

Ben stared at her for a long moment before letting out a heavy sigh. "Fine." He muttered, knowing he stood no chance when she made that face. It was rare whenever she pulled out that expression so it wasn't like he got used to it. He was 32 and still falling for that look. He couldn't help but smile when he saw the excited expression on her face.

Ben only hoped that this Scott kid wouldn't hurt his niece.
