new arrival

will India survive

Everything flashed by me in such a rush they put India on to a stretcher and wheeled her very quickly into the hospital and i was asked to wait in the family room while the staff worked on her. i went straight to the pay phone and rang John and i prayed that this time he would answer. the phone kept on ringing and ringing and i was just about to hang up when i heard a female voice speak

" Hello"

" oh hello is that you Yoko?"

" yes who are you?"

" it's cynthia is John there?"

" oh well no he is asleep at the moment' she replied

Cynthia knew she was lying as she could hear John sing and play his guitar in the background

" well could you please wake him up its important"

" i can't see there being anything that important that i have to wake him up"

" his daughter is in hospital having a severe allergic reaction she could die i think that's important enough don't you"

" well ill pass on the message"

" no ill pass on the message and if you don't put him on this phone right now i swear i will let the world know about how you had an affair with a married man and broke up a family"

" are you threatening me?"

Cynthia heard John's voice alot clearer and he was asking who was threatening you

" you bet i am now i can hear john now put him on the damn phone"

"what do you think you are doing threatening my wife"

"i had no choice it was the only way she would allow me to speak to you"

" what do you want anyway" he snapped

" you know what i was just wanting to inform you that India is in hospital she could be dying but forget it bye John"

she was about to hang up the phone when she heard him shouting

" no wait cyn please don't hang up what's happened

" she had a allergic reaction to peanuts she has stopped breathing and her face was swollen the doctors are working on her now"

" why would you give her peanuts you know she is allergic"

" i did'nt give her peanuts she took them herself while i was putting Hollie to bed"

" i will be there as soon as i can Cyn i am going to book a flight ill be there please tell her im coming"

" i will John"

Cynthia hung up and thought she would ring Paul as he should know. she dialed in his number

" Ello"

' Paul its me Cyn"

"are you ok you sound upset"

" India is in hospital she took some peanut butter and has had a allergic reaction she has stopped breathing the doctors are working on her as we speak"

Cynthia was greeted by complete silence then the tone which told her Paul had hung up the phone

Cynthia went back to the family room and sat down and tried to calm down while waiting on someone to tell her some news

Cynthia was sat alone for around 15 minutes when Paul came bursting threw the door

" is she ok"

" i don't know they have not came near me since she arrived" 

Cynthia started to cry and Paul hugged her until she stopped

" where is Hollie?" Paul asked

" Dot was working today so she said she would look after her until we return

45 minutes had passed when finally the doctor had arrived and Cynthia and Paul jumped out of their seats to meet him

" hello are you India's mother and father" he asked

" oh no im her mother and this is her uncle her father is travelling back from America now to be here"

" oh i see well your daughter had what we call Anophylaxis which means a severe allergic reaction which is very serious you are very lucky. i don't mean to scare you but your daughter was around 5 minutes away from death"

Cynthia gasped and Paul held her hand

" thankfully your daughter is fine we gave her some adrenaline then some oxygen to help with her breathing then we gave her some steroids to reduce the inflammation that was in her face. she is still very weak and would like to keep her overnight to keep an eye on her. we would also be giving you a prescription to get an Epi pen which is an injection which is full of adrenaline in case she ever comes in contact with nuts again then you just inject her in her thigh and that should put a stop of further symptoms if caught in time"

" can we go and see her please?" Paul asked

"yes but only for 5 minutes as she is still not woken up from the adrenaline"

" that's ok we would just like to see her" Cyn responded

" don't be alarmed by all the wires and by the oxygen on her. the tubes are just to monitor her heart beat and the oxygen is to just keep the airways open"

" thank you doctor" Cynthia said

" your welcome she is room 208"

Paul and Cynthia found her room and walked in and were shocked by what they saw

India looked so tiny so fragile lying on the bed with those huge looking tubes coming from her 

" oh my god Paul she looks awful"

" i have to agree she looks fragile and helpless"

" she knew she was allergic to peanuts me and John both sat down with her and told her and she knew she could not have peanut butter because John loved it and would eat it when India was at school and we told her never to touch it because it would make her ill so i don't understand why she would eat some"

" we wont know until she wakes up but something is not right" 

Cynthia went over and kissed her head

" see you tomorrow sweetie i love you"

Paul followed her

" Ello there beautiful ill be back tomorrow and you better have those pretty eyes of your open" he kissed her forehead and wiped the tears out of his eyes and left with Cynthia
