* This imagine was requested by _thegirlinthesea I really hope you like it and I hope it wasn't too difficult changing books! I don't really like how this turned out but I hope you guys like it.
Warning: this one-shot is mainly about depression with a scene leading up to suicide. I am not romanticizing depression or suicide in any way, especially since I have personal ties to both. If anybody has any issues with something I wrote or if this triggers you in any way, please come talk to me. I am always here to talk or just listen if you feel like ranting. Love you guys *
I awoke to the sound of grinding gears against the walls of the room I was. The room was dark and seemed to be moving at a fast pace upwards, causing a wave of nausea to wash over me. I could only make out the outlines of the objects in front of me but the moan I could hear as clear as day.
"Where are we?" The voice was male and I figured must have been where the moan came from. His shadow lifted off the ground as he wobbled on his feet, leaning against the wall of the... elevator as it lifted us up.
"I-I don't know," I replied. Seeing the boy struggle to stand upright kept me on the ground with my legs pulled into my chest.
"I'm Thomas. Can you tell me your name?" The boy, whom I now knew as Thomas, staggered over to my corner of the elevator where he fell onto his knees. He stuck his hand out just as the elevator passed a glowing red light on the wall. The light was bright enough that I could make out his features and I instantly recognized him.
"Thomas? It's me, (Y/N)," I cheered, happy to see his familiar face.
"(Y/N)? Oh god, I'm so happy it's you." He forgot about shaking my hand and wrapped his arms around my shoulders. I didn't know where I was, but at least I was safe in the arms of my brother.
Our little reunion was cut short when the elevator came to a quick halt. We were thrown off balance and onto our faces just as the overhead doors slid open, allowing hot light to burn out eyes.
Soft whispers were heard above as we kept our eyes down to adjust to the new light. Thomas looked first and his breath hitched. I was too scared now to look, frightened by his reaction along with the fear I had already been feeling.
"There's two greenies... and one's a girl," an accented voice was the first I heard. Finally feeling brave enough to look up, I saw a dozen boys around the opening of our elevator peering down at the two of us (me mostly if I might add).
The elevator shook violently as two boys jumped into the box with us. Thomas moved himself so that he was in front of me, blocking the blond boy from reaching me.
"Don't touch my sister," he hissed, glaring at the two who were close to us. More murmurs arose from the boys above but the blond wasn't fazed by them.
"I won't hurt you," he said gently in the same accent as I had first heard. "I'm gonna get you out of here." He held out his hand. I exchanged a look with Thomas to tell him I trusted this boy, although I wasn't even sure why.
I took his hand and let him help me out of the elevator using the other objects inside as stairs.
"Come on, greenie. I don't have time for this," the boy helping Thomas groaned, annoyed how difficult Thomas was being compared to me.
"Quit being a shank Gally and just help the boy up," the blond beside me called to the boy in the elevator, who's named I just learned was Gally.
The two boys brought us to a third who told us vaguely what was going on here before ushering us to their 'pits' as they called them. The door was locked seconds after we were pushed inside and left the two of us alone.
