Slowly, but steadily Grace started to realize that she kind of had an organizational talent. Within some hours she organized a perfect, opulent Thanksgiving dinner.
The turkey was spending its last minutes in the oven, only waiting to be served. In the middle of the lightly decorated compound, some appetizing side meals were served on the large table. The colors of the food and decoration were fitting the reddish colors of autumn that spread throughout the old building the Mikaelsons called home.
Grace was perfectly satisfied with the outcome. Since she got to know Nik and Elijah, she clearly learnt that she had to take matters that didn't involve any blood at first sight into her own hands.
Still, she was quite nervous welcoming their enemies into their home. Without question she would participate in this. She wouldn't let the men she cared so deeply about run into this without her. But with the pregnancy, with this whole new situation, it was something else. She really had to watch out for herself, because her life wasn't the only one she was responsible for anymore.
Sighing, she let herself fall into the comfy armchair beside her and stared longingly to the Bourbon that stood beside her, as if it was mocking her. Being pregnant definitely had its disadvantages. Drowning her sorrows was out of reach for now.
After a while, she felt the presence of someone entering the room and Grace lightly smiled when she saw that it was Elijah. He stepped behind the armchair without saying anything and reached out for her slender shoulders. Lightly, he started to massage them with a firm, but gentle grip.
Grace closed her eyes and leaned her head back, enjoying the attention he was giving her. Sometimes he just knew what she needed, which made him even more perfect.
"Are you ok?"
He leaned forward and whispered close to her ear. She hummed approvingly, to which Elijah chuckled. This clearly wasn't easy for her, but she never ceased to give him these moments of normality that just filled him with joy.
"Yeah. Just pregnant."
They both chuckled at her remark, then Elijah leaned forward and captured Grace's lips in a tender, but passionate kiss. Her hands found their way into his soft hair and she smiled into the kiss, enjoying that they were back to their feeling of ease, despite the overall tension that had developed recently.
"Can't you two get cozy somewhere else?"
Nik's voice suddenly sounded from beside them, to which the couple pulled apart. Grace sighed in annoyance and rolled her eyes, her temper starting to flare up.
"Aren't you the one that disturbed my much needed sleep by having sex with a nastily loud red head all over the house?"
The hybrid's smile grew even wider when she shot all the sarcasm towards him. He missed the constant friendly banter.
"Perks of living the family. Anyways, what you prepared downstairs looks spectacular. What a pity you won't participate in this."
Grace immediately stilled in her movement. She heard Elijah sucking in a hash breath, as if preparing for the massive outburst of hers that was head of them.
"You aren't serious."
The young vampire hissed and she stood up, glaring at Nik. Elijah immediately placed a hand on her shoulder to calm her, but she just shrugged him off."I'm very serious. You won't face any of these devils today, end of discussion."
Nik wanted to turn around and walk out of the room, but Grace was in front of him within the blink of an eye. At least her physical abilities were still working fine.
