requested by skysky768 ! sorry for the wait x

It came with the job that Dylan would be away for months at a time, not being able to see him for long periods of time. Dating him meant that you had to work extra hard for your relationship to work, calling and texting constantly, facetiming each other despite different time zones, etc.

Normally it would only be for three or four months at a time, but this time was different — he had to relocate to a different country for a whole year. You would've went with him but your job and whole life was in Los Angeles so you couldn't leave no matter how much you wanted to.

The first few months were fine, as you were used to not seeing him for that amount of time, but as the year passed by slowly your home that you usually shared with him felt empty. You hung out with your friends and family more but they couldn't fill the empty space left by Dylan.

You missed him making a joke out of every situation, and cheering you up when you were sad— you didn't want to worry him whenever you facetimed him as you knew this job was extremely important to him and you didn't want him to worry about you missing him.

One night after a long day at work, you headed home and grabbed something to eat before heading straight to bed. You checked your phone and saw you had a few missed messages from Dylan.

dyl
hey baby, i miss you

dyl
facetime tonight?

dyl
oh never mind i have to work:(

dyl
i love you.

You sighed, wanting to see him so badly but you typed out a quick reply.

y/n
hey dyl, maybe tomorrow? miss you so much:(

You knew he probably wouldn't reply straight away because he was usually working at this time of night, locking your phone you turned off the light and fell asleep.

When the next morning came you repeated your daily routine, getting ready and going to work. The only thing that was odd was that you woke up to no new messages from Dylan, but you tried not to think too much about it since he was busy.

Another long day at work meant you got home late, when you got home all you wanted to do was go straight to bed, but as soon as you opened the door you heard a noise upstairs.

On instinct you grabbed the bat you kept at the bottom of the stairs in a cupboard for situations just like this. You placed your bags on the floor before tip-toeing upstairs, checking every room.

A clattering sound came from your bedroom as you stood outside, posed with your bat.

The door opened slowly and a figure stepped out, you held your bat steady before dropping it as soon as you saw who it was.

"Dylan?!" You squealed.

He nearly jumped out of his skin as he saw you hidden against the wall, his eyes trailing to the bat on the floor, "y/n?" He asked, his voice a mix of emotions as he saw you after so long apart.

You wasted no time in running into his arms and letting him envelop you in his arms that felt more muscular since the last time you saw him.

"What are you doing with the bat?" He asked, a soft chuckle escaping his lips.

"I thought there was a burglar!" You exclaimed.

"Oh! I'm sorry, love. I just wanted to surprise you... when I got your text last night it just made me miss you even more and I had to come home." He explained.

Your heart melted when he called you love, and finally seeing the love of your life was the best surprise you could think of.

Without another moment to spare you stood on your tip-toes and kissed him with all of the strength you had— his hand moved to hold you closer against him whilst the other ran through your hair comfortingly.

"Gosh I missed you so much, you have no idea." He murmured between kisses.

"I think I can guess." You replied as you trailed kisses across his jaw and slowly reaching his neck.

"Shall we take this to the bedroom?" He asked, his voice sounded husky as if he was desperate to spend every moment with you, kissing you more.

You nodded before he told you to jump, you jumped up slightly as he wrapped your legs around his waist and carried you through to the bedroom where he'd scattered rose petals everywhere.

That was one of the most perfect nights you'd had in a long time, just getting to be with Dylan instantly boosted your mood.

He stayed with you for a few days before he had to leave to go back to work.

"I promise I'll be home soon... and I won't leave you for this long ever again." He said as he held your hands tightly before he got into his taxi.

You placed your hand over his against the car window, "I love you." He mouthed as he drove off.

Now you just had to wait another few months to reunite with him, but now the wait wouldn't feel as unbearable.
