*a few years later* Memphis is ten.

Memphis's pov

I walk into the cafeteria for lunch. There was this new boy in our class today so I wanted to find him and introduce myself. I like making the new kids feel welcome. Sadly I couldn't find him in the cafeteria. After class, I found out... He didn't go to lunch. I sat beside him. "Hey I'm Memphis. What's your name?" "Jeremy." He says. I wonder why he didn't go to lunch. The teacher calls recess.

*a few hours later*

Jason's pov

Memphis gets home from school just as Chris gets home from a date. "Hey kiddo, how was school?" Chris asks. "There was a new kid. His name's Jeremy." He sits at the bar, looking conflicted. "What's wrong, son?" I ask. "He.... Well... He didn't eat lunch." He says nervous. "I know he was hungry. I could tell." Hm, maybe I should tell Miranda about a potential case.

*the next day*

"Hey mom can I bring a lunch for Jeremy today?" I can't help but smile. I love my little boy. Always caring about others. My amazing wife makes a sack lunch with a smile.

I get to school excited. I can't wait to surprise Jeremy. I sneakily put the packed lunch in his desk. Then when he gets to class, he has a black eye! "What happened?!" I cry, shocked. "I... I don't want to talk about it." He mumbles, sitting down. I'm so worried about him.

*lunch*

The bell was going to ring for lunch in a few minutes. "Hey can I borrow your pencil sharpener?" I ask, smiling. "Sure." He says, opening his desk. His eyes go wide when he sees it. He opens it and almost starts crying. I hug him tight.

Jason's pov

Memphis gets home from school and asks to call Miranda. "Is this something to do with Jeremy?" I ask, worried about how scared he looks. He nods. "What happened?" "He... He had a black eye. I'm really worried about him." I call Miranda. "Hey honey. I think I have a case for you."

Miranda's pov

I instantly head over to his house. I heard yelling from the street. "Who told you you could eat?! I thought I told you not to talk to people!!!" Instant anger vibrates through me. I knock hard on the door and as soon as it opens, a little boy runs out bleeding. He runs straight passed me. "Get back here you no good shit!!" The cop behind me handcuffs the crazy bitch. "Jeremy!" I call worried. I could hear him crying. "Jeremy it's okay. I'm here to help. Come on out so we can talk." I saw his trembling figure. "No! Stay away! Please don't hurt me!!" He whimpers bawling. I bend down and hug him. He whimpers from the pain. I take him to the hospital and they stitchup the cut in his arm and the one above his eye. This poor little boy has been through hell. But thanks to my little brother, he is saved.
