A/N - we are back and wow the response has been terrific - which is just as well. We love this book to bits and would go quite postal if no one else found it funny. Reb/RK.

Emma's POV

I was dragged back to the cells but I knew worse was about to happen. I was in a shared cell with other criminals. There I learnt the finer points of the new criminal system. For Werewolfs crime was fairly simple. They had a very sensitive lie detector. A 'trial' was little more than asking you if you did it. Which was fine, except sometimes to make the lie detector work they stuck a needle in your brain. It didn't matter what you said as your own mind would convict you. The only way to successfully commit a crime was to have no memory of it or have zero remorse. So impossible if you weren't a John Gacy style sociopath.

The robot Matlock came to the door.

"Hi I'm looking for Bex. She's down for death by drowning. Bex anyone? Anyone by the name of Bex? Last call for a miserable cold wet death for Bex in the Titanic chamber. " The machine said calmly.

I wondered at the stupidity of the machine. You couldn't help but think, if it was there due to some mechanical version of nepotism. Perhaps it was the toaster's dumber brother. 'Don't worry' says the police toaster to Matlock's mom robot. 'I'll get him a job and make sure he/it/whatever is ok'.

"Last call for a miserable cold wet death for Bex" continued Matlock calling.

Missouri and Big Lou looked down and shook their heads. The robot continued down the row of cells asking the same question. Eventually, I heard a poor girl started to protest. She was dragged away promising she would never steal bread again.

"Wow, death by drowning," I said, "for stealing some bread. That's extreme."

Times were tough and we had all been there.

"Well" began Missouri "It's not like me to defend them but by stealing bread they mean. She hacked into the AI of a thousand automatic bread delivery trucks and redirected them to another delivery point for the poor."

"Well, plus kudos points for mass theft," I said impressed.

"The trucks were going to get bread for the Alpha's wedding. She redirected them to famine in Boston and Oxford.

"I'm doubly impressed, total Robinhood points," I said.

Big Lou tilted her heard "But she charged the starving money for the bread."

"Shame," said Missouri.

"Which she gave to charity," Big Lou said.

"Well OK Yeah!" I said.

"Which turned out to be a front for the mafia." Big Lou said.

"No," I said frowning. I looked at Big Lou "you should stop there. You're making my moral compass spin like a wind turbine in a force nine gale."

They say she's the second smartest hacker in the Alphaorate of America." Big Lou said.

"Who's the smartest?" I asked.

"Dun know. Whoever it was that caught her I guess" said Big Lou. I nodded in agreement.

I felt nervous. My vital mission needed me. I was wasting time. I needed a way out.

I tried to change the subject and spoke to Big Lou "What are you on death row for?"

Big Lou hesitated "The usual, made a lot of wrong decisions down the road. Hung out with the wrong people. Did the wrong stuff."

I was curious, now I needed straight answer "no seriously what are they going to kill you for?"

"Oh," said Big Lou "late library fines. Judge Sabrina said she was going to make an example of me so tomorrow it's the electric chair."
